Rock 'n' Roll (Motörhead Album)
''Rock 'n' Roll'' is the eighth studio album by English rock band Motörhead, released on 5 September 1987. It is their last album with the GWR label, as more legal issues embroiled the band with yet another label. Reaching only No. 34 in the UK Albums Chart, ''Rock 'n' Roll'' was, in that respect, the worst performing of all of Motörhead's top 40 chart hits. It would see the return of 'classic line up' drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, albeit only for a few more years before being fired. Background In 1987, Motörhead appeared in the Peter Richardson film ''Eat the Rich'', which starred the regular cast of ''The Comic Strip'' and Motörhead frontman Lemmy himself in a small part as "Spider". The band supplied six songs for the soundtrack as well. Motörhead
Motörhead () were an English rock band formed in London in 1975 by Lemmy (lead vocals, bass), Larry Wallis (guitar) and Lucas Fox (drums). Lemmy was also the primary songwriter and only constant member. The band are often considered a precursor to the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Though several guitarists and drummers have played in Motörhead, most of their best-selling albums and singles feature drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor and guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke. Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Brian Robertson (guitarist)
Brian David Robertson (born 12 February 1956) is a Scottish rock guitarist,Byrne, Alan ''Thin Lizzy, Soldiers of Fortune'', Firefly Publishing, November 2005 pp. 51 & 56 best known as a former member of Thin Lizzy and Motörhead. Early life Robertson was born in Clarkston, Renfrewshire (now part of East Renfrewshire), where he was educated, attending Eastwood High School in nearby Newton Mearns, and became a musician. He studied cello and classical piano for eight years before switching to the guitar and drums. He played in gigs around his local area with bands like Dream Police, who later evolved into the Average White Band. ''Inferno'' is the seventeenth studio album by British Rock music, rock band Motörhead, released on 22 June 2004. It was their eighth with the SPV GmbH, Steamhammer label, and second under Sanctuary Records and its subsidiary Metal-Is in North America and certain territories. Recording ''Inferno'' was Motörhead's first album with Cameron Webb producing. Webb told Joel McIver of ''Classic Rock Presents Motörhead'' in 2010 that he had wanted to make an album with the band for years and met them for dinner at the Sunset Marquis Hotel to discuss the possibility of working together: "I talked about how I wanted to make a really heavy record with them. That was a mistake, because Lemmy likes to play rock 'n' roll – he doesn't like to play heavy music – and he called me on it." Joe Petagno
Joe Petagno (born January 1, 1948) is an American artist known principally for creating images used on rock album covers for bands such as Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Black Oak Arkansas, Sweet, Hawkwind, Motörhead, Roy Harper, Marduk, Bal-Sagoth, Autopsy, Attick Demons, Illdisposed and Sodom. Petagno was born in Portland, Maine and left the United States in 1972. He worked with Hipgnosis before meeting Motörhead's Lemmy in 1975, he designed "War-Pig" (a.k.a. Snaggletooth, The Iron Boar, The Bastard or The Little Bastard) for the band's ''Motörhead'' album and has continued to design the majority of the album and single sleeve covers for the band. Petagno refers to Motörhead's mascot as The Bastard (or The Little Bastard). Joe Petagno came with the concept after studying skulls of wild boars, gorillas and dogs. "Ace of Spades" is a song by English heavy metal band Motörhead and the title track to the album ''Ace of Spades''. It was released as a single in October 1980. Overview Initially issued as a 7" vinyl single on 27 October 1980 as a preview to the album ''Ace of Spades'' and autumn tour, the song was also released by Bronze Records as a 12" vinyl pressing in special Christmas picture sleeves, limited to 50,000 copies. The picture of the band in Santa outfits used on the cover was taken at the Aylesbury Fair, while the band were on tour. Bronze also issued German and Spanish 7" vinyl versions which had a different sleeves, as well as a Japanese release, with a colour picture insert with song lyrics in English and Japanese. One sided test pressings (not mis-presses, but used in the trade) escaped the pressing plant and are on the market. The song opens with an overdriven bass intro played by Lemmy. Giants of Rock was an annual hard rock and heavy metal festival in Hämeenlinna, Finland. It was held from 1987 to 1992 at Ahvenisto Race Circuit. Joel McIver (born 10 February 1971) is a British author. His best-known work is ''Justice for All: The Truth About Metallica'', first published in 2004 and appearing in nine languages since then. McIver's other works include biographies of Black Sabbath, Slayer, Thunder, Ice Cube, and Queens of the Stone Age.
