Robert Zache
Robert Zache (25 November 1934 – 15 February 2017) was a German footballer who last played as a defender for FC 08 Homburg. Club career Zache started his career with German top flight side SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken. In 1957, he signed for German side SV Waldhof Mannheim. He was teammates with club legend Klaus Sinn. In 1959, he returned to German top flight side SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken. International career Zache played for the Saarland national football B team. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken is a German sports association based in Saarbrücken, Saarland. The largest club in the state, it is best known for its athletics department, and also fields an association football team. History The club was founded as ''Fussball Klub Saarbrücken'' on 8 May 1905 and within three months was re-christened ''Sport-Club Saar 05 Saarbrücken''. From 1919, the club played in the Kreisliga Saar, where it took out a championship in 1920, thereby advancing to the Southern German championship where it got knocked out in the group stage. SV Waldhof Mannheim is a multi-sports club, located in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg. It is most known for its association football team; however, there are also professional handball and table-tennis sides. The club today has a membership of over 2,400. History The club was founded 1907 and played in the second division of the ''Westkreis-Liga'' before the First World War. Fußball-Club 08 Homburg or simply FC Homburg is a German association football club based in Homburg, Saarland, that competes in the Regionalliga Südwest. The club was founded on 15 June 1908 as ''Fussball Club Homburg'' by a group of seventeen young men at the local Hohenburg pub. The Saarland B national football team was a secondary men's national football team which represented the Saar Protectorate. It was used to try out and develop players for potential inclusion in the first team. Its matches are not considered full internationals. The team played one match on 1 May 1955 against the Netherlands B team. Match The only match of Saarland's B team took place on 1 May 1955 at the Ellenfeldstadion in Neunkirchen against the Netherlands. Saarland led 2–0 at half-time, before Jan van Roessel reduced the deficit for the Netherlands in the second half.
