Robert Thompson (Wisconsin Politician)
Robert Thompson (November 25, 1927 – June 1, 1999) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Thompson was born in Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from Poynette High School in Poynette, Wisconsin. Later, he joined the United States Marshals Service. As a U.S. marshal, Thompson was in charge of law enforcement at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin in 1980, when it was used as an internment camp for Cuban refugees admitted as part of the Mariel boatlift. Thompson was married with one child. He died on June 1, 1999 after suffering a heart attack while watching a softball game. Political career Thompson was first elected to the Assembly in 1970 as a Democrat. After serving as Sergeant at Arms of the Wisconsin State Senate from 1975 to 1978, Thompson was again elected to the Assembly in 1982. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. From 1848 to 1853 there were 66 assembly districts; from 1854 to 1856, 82 districts; from 1857 to 1861, 97 districts; and from 1862 to 1972, 100 districts. The Secretary of State of Wisconsin is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of the government of the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and is second (behind the Lieutenant Governor) in the line of succession to the office of Governor of Wisconsin. Clifford W. "Tiny" Krueger (June 24, 1918October 15, 1988) was an American politician, businessman, and circus performer from the U.S. state of Wisconsin. He served 34 years in the Wisconsin State Senate representing vast multi-county districts in the northern part of the state. Circus career Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Krueger graduated from high school in Merrill, Wisconsin. Krueger was in the Sheboygan-based Seils-Sterling Circus performing as the fat-boy weighing 425 pounds. Douglas J. La Follette (born June 6, 1940) is an American academic, environmental scientist, and politician. A Democrat, he is the current Secretary of State of Wisconsin, and the longest-serving statewide elected official (excluding U.S. senators) in the United States.
