Robert Taylor (British Army Officer)
General Robert Taylor or Taylour (26 November 1760 – 23 April 1839) styled The Honourable from birth, was an Irish soldier and politician. Background He was the third son of Thomas Taylour, 1st Earl of Bective and his wife Jane Rowley, daughter of Hercules Langford Rowley and Elizabeth Rowley, 1st Viscountess Langford. His older brother was Thomas Taylour, 1st Marquess of Headfort and his younger brother was Clotworthy Rowley, 1st Baron Langford. Taylour died at Davestown unmarried and childless. Career Taylour entered the British Army as a cornet in the 5th Dragoons in 1783. He purchased his lieutenancy in 1784 and captaincy in 1785. In June 1790 he purchased his commission as a major, and as a lieutenant-colonel in 1792. He served with his regiment first in Ireland, then from 1793 in the French Revolutionary Wars in Flanders and Germany, being brevetted colonel in 1796. Major Hercules Langford Taylour (9 September 1759 – 20 May 1790) styled The Honourable from 1760, was an Irish soldier and politician. He was the second son of Thomas Taylour, 1st Earl of Bective and his wife Jane Rowley, daughter of Hercules Langford Rowley and Elizabeth Rowley, 1st Viscountess Langford. His older brother was Thomas Taylour, 1st Marquess of Headfort and his younger brothers were Robert Taylour and Clotworthy Rowley, 1st Baron Langford. A carabinier (also sometimes spelled carabineer or carbineer) is in principle a soldier armed with a carbine. A carbiniere is a carabiniere musket or rifle and were commonplace by the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. The word is derived from the identical French word ''carabinier''. Historically, carabiniers were generally (but not always) horse soldiers. The carbine was considered a more appropriate firearm for a horseman than a full-length musket, since it was lighter and easier to handle while on horseback. Light infantry sometimes carried carbines because they are less encumbering when moving rapidly, especially through vegetation, but in most armies the tendency was to equip light infantry with longer-range weapons such as rifles rather than shorter-range weapons such as carbines. In Italy and Spain, carbines were considered suitable equipment for soldiers with policing roles, so the term ''carabinier'' evolved to sometimes denote gendarmes and border guards. ... Thomas Hawker (British Army Officer)
General Sir Thomas Hawker KCH (1777 – 13 June 1858) was a British Army cavalry officer. Hawker began his career in the 11th Light Dragoons in 1795 and fought with them during the 1799 Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland. In 1804, he purchased the rank of major with the 20th Light Dragoons and served with them in Spain during the Peninsular War. He was promoted to command of the regiment in 1808. Hawker served in the force sent to occupy the Republic of Genoa in 1814 and shortly after was promoted to colonel and given command of a light cavalry brigade. Spending some time on half pay after the end of the Napoleonic Wars he returned to active service as lieutenant-colonel of the 13th Light Dragoons. Hawker was in the East Indies between 1822--26 and 1830-36 and was promoted to major-general in 1825. Henry Luttrell, 2nd Earl Of Carhampton
General Henry Lawes Luttrell, 2nd Earl of Carhampton PC (7 August 1743 – 25 April 1821) was an Anglo-Irish politician and soldier. He was the son of Simon Luttrell, 1st Earl of Carhampton and brother-in-law of Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn. He had command in Ireland during the 1798 rebellion, and was renowned for a violent counter-insurgency untrammelled by legal considerations for him. In his last years as a Member of the Westminster Parliament he opposed reform and defended the violent suppression of democratic agitation in the Peterloo Massacre. Early years Luttrell was the scion of an Anglo-Irish landed family, descendants of Sir Geoffrey de Luterel, who established Luttrellstown Castle, County Dublin, in the early 13th century.
