Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton KG (157025 October 1627) was an English nobleman, peer, politician, landowner, and MP from the Spencer family. Life He was born in Althorp, Northamptonshire, the son of John Spencer and Mary, daughter of Sir Robert Catlyn. Spencer held the office of Member of Parliament for Brackley from 1597 to 1598. He was the Commissioner for Musters for Northamptonshire in 1600 and Sheriff of Northamptonshire for 1601–02. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter in 1601. Anne of Denmark and Prince Henry came to Althorp on Sunday 25 June 1603 from Dingley. The Most Noble Order of the Garter is an order of chivalry founded by Edward III of England in 1348. It is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system, outranked in precedence only by the Victoria Cross and the George Cross. Sir Thomas Griffin (1580 – 1615) was an English landowner and hosted the royal family at Dingley. Thomas Griffin was the eldest son of Sir Edward Griffin (d. 1620) of Dingley, Braybrooke, and Gumley Ewing and Lucy Conyers (d. 1620), a daughter of Richard Conyers of Wakerley. A miniature portrait of Thomas Griffin by Nicholas Hilliard has the inscription "Anno Domini 1599, Aetatis Suae 20', he was born early in 1580. Earl Of Sunderland
Earl of Sunderland is a title that has been created twice in the Peerage of England. The first creation came in 1627 in favour of Emanuel Scrope, 11th Baron Scrope of Bolton. The earldom became extinct on his death in 1630 while the barony became either extinct or dormant (see Baron Scrope of Bolton for more information on this title). The second creation came in 1643 in favour of the Royalist soldier Henry Spencer, 3rd Baron Spencer of Wormleighton. The Spencer family descended from Sir John Spencer (d. 1522) who acquired the Wormleighton estate in Warwickshire and the Althorp estate in Northamptonshire. His grandson Sir John Spencer (d. 1586) was a Knight of the Shire for Northamptonshire. The latter's grandson Sir Robert Spencer represented Brackley in Parliament in the late 16th century. Edward Spencer (died 1656)
Sir Edward Spencer (1594 – 16 February 1656) was an English landowner, lawyer, knight, nobleman, and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1648. Life Spencer was the son of Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton and his wife Margaret Willoughby the daughter of Sir Francis Willoughby and Elizabeth Lyttelton. He was baptised at Brington on 2 March 1594. He matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford on 13 November 1609, aged 14 and was awarded BA on 18 February 1612. In 1618 he was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn. In 1621, Spencer was elected Member of Parliament for Brackley. He was re-elected MP for Brackley in 1624 and 1625. He was of Boston Manor when he was knighted at Hampton Court on 27 December 1625. In 1626 he was elected MP for Middlesex. Sir Richard Spencer (1593 − 1 November 1661) was an English nobleman, gentleman, knight, and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1621 to 1629 and in 1661. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Early life Spencer was the son of Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton and his wife Margaret, daughter of Sir Francis Willoughby and Elizabeth Lyttelton. George Fane (of Burston)
Sir George Fane (1581 – 26 June 1640) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1601 and 1640. Life Fane was the second son of Sir Thomas Fane of Badsell in Kent, by his second wife, Mary Neville, who was a daughter of Henry Nevill, 6th Baron Bergavenny and his wife, the former Lady Frances Manners. Fane was matriculated from Queens' College, Cambridge in 1595 and admitted at Lincoln's Inn on 19 November 1597. In 1601, Fane was elected Member of Parliament for Dover. He was knighted on 23 July 1603 at the coronation of King James I. In 1604 he was elected MP for Sandwich and in 1614 was elected MP for Dover again. He was elected MP for Kent in 1621. Sir Francis Willoughby (1546/7–1596) was an English industrialist and coalowner, who built Wollaton Hall in Nottinghamshire. Family Francis Willoughby was the younger son of Sir Henry Willoughby (slain 27 August 1549 during Kett's Rebellion) of Wollaton, Nottinghamshire, and Anne Grey (d.1548), the daughter of Thomas Grey, 2nd Marquess of Dorset, by Margaret Wotton.
