Robert Sisk
Robert Sisk (March 20, 1903 – February 25, 1964) was an American film producer. Sources differ as to his birthplace, with some indicating Maryland and others specifying the unincorporated village of Pokeshaw in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. In the late 1930s he made a number of movies with John Farrow at RKO including ''Five Came Back'' (1939). He later worked at MGM and produced for TV. His wife died in 1957. ''Challenge to Lassie'' is an American drama directed by Richard Thorpe in Technicolor and released October 31, 1949, by MGM Studios. It was the fifth feature film starring the original Lassie, a collie named Pal, and the fourth and final ''Lassie'' film starring Donald Crisp. The movie is based on Eleanor Stackhouse Atkinson's 1912 novel ''Greyfriars Bobby'' which in turn is based on the supposedly true story of Greyfriars Bobby. Twelve years after starring in ''Challenge to Lassie'', Crisp would star in another movie based on the novel and produced by Walt Disney titled, ''Greyfriars Bobby''. Set in Scotland in 1860, the film tells the story of a rough collie named Lassie whose master, Jock Gray, is killed by robbers in Edinburgh. Jeanette MacDonald had been off the screen for five years until her return in ''Three Daring Daughters'' (1948), but ''The Sun Comes Up'' was to be her last. In it, she had to share the screen not with an up-and-coming younger actress but with a very popular animal star. Although her retreat from a film career can be blamed largely on an increasingly debilitating heart ailment (which eventually took her life at the age of 61 in 1965), MacDonald continued to make concert and TV appearances after this. Pokeshaw is an unincorporated village in Gloucester County ( New Bandon Parish), New Brunswick, Canada. It houses a former provincial, now communal park that includes a beach, and a large rock island, Pokeshaw Island, also known as Bird Island, because of the many birds frequently seen on the top of the large rock. There are three main industries in Pokeshaw: fishing, farming and maple products. There are two farms in the area: Whelton's beef farm, near the Pokeshaw/ Grand Anse border, and Riordon Farms, a dairy farm, as well as a maple sugar camp, Riordon Maple Products. Pokeshaw and its surrounding areas are fertile with moose, deer and rabbit as well as abundant fish stocks.
