Robert Saunders (Irish Lawyer)
Robert Saunders (c.1650–1708) was an Irish landowner, barrister and politician. He sat in the Irish House of Commons as MP for Cavan, and was the Irish Prime Serjeant-at-law. Unusually, his youngest son, Morley Saunders, also held the office of Prime Serjeant. Robert was one of the founders of the village of Swanlinbar, County Cavan, which is partially named after him, according to Jonathan Swift, who states that "an" represents the "aund" in "Saunders". He was probably born in County Wexford. He was the second son of Colonel Robert Saunders and his wife Sarah Fitzherbert. His father had come to Ireland about the time of Robert's birth with Oliver Cromwell, with whom he is later said to have quarrelled. The elder Saunders became Governor of Kinsale, and received a grant of 3700 acres of land in Wexford. Robert Alan Saunders is an American computer scientist, most famous for being an influential computer programmer. Saunders joined the Tech Model Railroad Club (TMRC) led by Alan Kotok, Peter Samson, and himself. They then met Marvin Minsky and other influential pioneers in what was then known as Artificial Intelligence. MIT: 1956–1962 From 1957–61, Robert Saunders worked with other undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where they were allowed by Jack Dennis to develop programs for the then TX-0 experimental computer on permanent loan from Lincoln Laboratory. Robert Hood Saunders, CBE, QC (May 30, 1903 – January 16, 1955) was mayor of Toronto from 1945 to 1948, President of the Canadian National Exhibition, chairman of the Ontario Hydro (formally named the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario (HEPCO)). He was also a member of the Orange Order in Canada. Biography As mayor, he was nicknamed "Grassroots Bob," for his down-to-earth style. A native of Toronto, he was a champion of the Toronto subway and fought to remove slums. In 1946, Saunders was inspired by an elementary school traffic safety program in Detroit. Saunders worked to start a program in Toronto, and the result was the Elmer the Safety Elephant program. Saunders was elected alderman for Ward 4 in 1935 and again in 1936. Bob Saunders is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator and running backs coach for the Memphis Showboats (2022) of the United States Football League (USFL). Saunders has served as an Offensive Assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams, and Cleveland Browns. He served two seasons as wide receivers coach in the United Football League with the Virginia Destroyers. In college football, he was Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kansas Wesleyan University and at Oberlin College as well as the quarterbacks coach at Washington University in St. Louis. Saunders has been selected as receivers coach for the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on three occasions. Saunders played collegiate football at Southern Methodist University.
