Robert Roy MacGregor
Robert Roy MacGregor ( gd, Raibeart Ruadh MacGriogair; 7 March 1671 – 28 December 1734) was a Scottish outlaw, who later became a folk hero. Early life Rob Roy was born in the Kingdom of Scotland at Glengyle, at the head of Loch Katrine, as recorded in the baptismal register of Buchanan, Stirling. His parents were the local Clan MacGregor Tacksman, Donald Glas MacGregor, and Margaret Campbell. He was also descended from the Clan MacDonald of Keppoch through his paternal grandmother. In January 1693, at Corrie Arklet farm near Inversnaid, he married Mary MacGregor of Comar (1671–1745), who was born at Leny Farm, Strathyre. The couple had four sons: James Mor MacGregor (1695–1754), Ranald (1706–1786), Coll (died 1735) and Robert (1715–1754)—known as Robìn Òig or Young Rob. Robert MacGregor (engineer)
Robert MacGregor was a British engineer, who, during the 1920s, concerned over unnecessary losses of North Sea colliers, developed the first steel hatch cover. The design was simple and consisted of five articulated leaves that stowed neatly at the end of each hatch. Patented in 1929, the steel hatch improved ship and cargo safety and had a lasting impact on cargo care. Robert McGregor (Australian Politician)
Robert McGregor (1853 – 6 August 1931) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in Lambeth to blacksmith Charles McGregor and Isabel McPhee. He came to Victoria at a young age and was educated in Ballarat. He became a business agent and auctioneer, and married Mary Laurie, with whom he had nine children. In 1894 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Ballarat East. He was a minister without portfolio from 1900 to 1901, and from 1901 to 1902 was Vice-President of the Board of Land and Works. He was Chairman of Committees from 1918 to 1921, but he lost his seat in 1924. Robert MacGregor (1825 – 1883) was a Scottish-born Australian headmaster and politician. MacGregor was born in Banffshire, Scotland, and was educated in Edinburgh. In 1852 he emigrated to Melbourne and lived in Emerald Hill. He became the headmaster of the South Melbourne Wesleyan day school. In 1863 he founded, as proprietor and headmaster, South Melbourne Grammar School. Robert Bilsand McGregor, MBE (born 3 April 1944), nicknamed the "Falkirk Flyer", is a Scottish former competitive swimmer. Swimming career He competed in eight events at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics. He won a silver medal in the 100-metre freestyle in 1964, and finished fourth in the 100-metre freestyle and 4×100-metre freestyle relay in 1968. He was a second favourite for the 1963 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. In 2002 he was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame. Olympic selectors could not believe that he trained in a 25-metre pool in Falkirk when the selectors arrived to critique him prior to the Tokyo Olympics. McGregor competed at the 1962 and 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal on each occasion in the 110-yard freestyle. Robert Henry McGregor, (March 1, 1886 – October 25, 1965) was a long-time Canadian parliamentarian. MacGregor was a contractor and horticulturalist by profession. He grew up in the Todmorden area of suburban Toronto, and was once an Elementary School student of a teacher named William Thomas Diefenbaker. His initial experience in politics began in 1912 when he was appointed a school trustee for York Township. Following the formation of North York Township, he eventually became the first reeve of East York. In 1922, R.H. McGregor Elementary School, located in the eventual centre of East York, was erected and named in his honour. He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1926 federal election and sat continuously in the chamber for thirty-six years until his defeat in the 1962 federal election when he was 79 years old.
