Sir Robert Dickson, 1st Baronet
Sir Robert Dickson (died October 1711), first holder of the baronetcy of Dickson of Sornbeg, was an MP of the Parliament of Scotland for the constituency of Edinburghshire from 1702 to 1707, who voted for the Union. He was the son of Alexander Dickson of Tourlands. He was created a baronet of Nova Scotia on 28 February 1695 when he was described as being of Sornbeg in Galston, Ayrshire, but later acquired a large estate in Inveresk. He was succeeded as second baronet by his son Robert (1694–1760) whose only son predeceased him, so the title presumably became extinct on his death. Robert Dickson (1804 – 13 October 1875) was a Scottish physician and botanist. Biography Dickson was born at Dumfries in 1804, and educated at the high school and the university of Edinburgh, where he graduated M.D. in 1826. Having settled in London, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1855, and continued to practise there till 1866, when he retired to the country. He was an accomplished botanist, and lectured on botany at the medical school in Webb Street, and afterwards at St. George's Hospital. All the articles on ‘Materia Medica’ in the ''Penny Cyclopædia ''The Penny Cyclopædia'' published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge was a multi-volume encyclopedia edited by George Long and published by Charles Knight alongside the ''Penny Magazine''. Robert Harold Dickson (8 April 1926 – 8 April 2014) was a South Australian architect. His many works contributed greatly to various aspects of South Australian architecture, ranging from conservation shelters to school buildings and residential projects. His most notable works are former premier, Don Dunstan's residence, the first townhouses in Adelaide and the University of Adelaide's Union House. He was described by Don Dunstan as the "premier architect". Whilst he spent the majority of his life practising in South Australia, he did work for a Milan-based Italian firm, Mangiarotti and Morasutti, for less than a year. He was also employed at Fry, Drew, Drake and Lasdun in London for a short time directly afterwards. Robert Dickson (c.1765 – 20 June 1823) was a fur trader, and later an officer in the British Indian Department in Upper Canada, who played a prominent part in the War of 1812. Early life He was born in Dumfries, Scotland where his father was a merchant. Robert B. Dickson (born January 25, 1944) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Amateur career Dickson was born in McAlester, Oklahoma. He was introduced to golf at the age of five by his father, Ben, a club pro/manager at the McAlester Country Club, and later club pro at the Muskogee Country Club (1958–1978). He attended high school in Muskogee, and was the state 2A golf champion for three years.
