Robert Broughton (activist)
Robert Stanley Broughton (born January 26, 1950) served as President of thVancouver Bicycle Clubfrom 1992 to 1994, and was president of Airspace Action on Smoking and Health from 1996 to 2001. He was president of thNew Westminster Tennis Clubin 2006 and 2007. As President of the Vancouver Bicycle Club, he played a role in the establishment of the Union-Adanac bicycle route, and was one of the founders of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition. As President of Airspace, he: * exposed a tobacco-industry-funded research program at the University of British Columbia * played a major role in drawing attention to inadequate enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale of cigarettes to minors. Airspace Action On Smoking And Health
Airspace Action on Smoking and Health (formerly ''Airspace Non-smokers' Rights Society'') was a volunteer-based anti-tobacco organization in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Airspace Non-smokers' Rights Society was initially founded in Victoria in the late 1970s and successfully lobbied for one of Canada's first ever smoking control by-laws. Dale Jackaman, then Secretary of the Victoria organization, moved to Vancouver in 1984. He and Norm Gillan founded the Vancouver branch of Airspace, and Jackaman was its first Executive Director. Jackaman then amalgamated both the Victoria and Namaimo organizations (run by Errol Povah) and formed what became the province-wide Airspace organization. The Western Canada Wilderness Committee (often shortened to Wilderness Committee) is a non-profit environmental education organization that aims to protect Canada's wild spaces and species. The Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) was a centrist political party in British Columbia, Canada founded by Gordon Wilson (British Columbia politician), Gordon Wilson, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Powell River—Sunshine Coast. Wilson, previously the leader of the British Columbia Liberal Party, led that party through a breakthrough in the 1991 British Columbia general election, provincial election of 1991, in which they rose from no parliamentary representation to official opposition status. The 2001 British Columbia general election was the 37th provincial election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on April 18, 2001 and held on May 16, 2001. Voter turnout was 55.4 per cent of all eligible voters. The 2005 British Columbia general election was held on May 17, 2005, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Province of British Columbia (BC), Canada.
