Rapeseed Methyl Ester
Biodiesel is a form of diesel fuel derived from plants or animals and consisting of long-chain fatty acid esters. It is typically made by chemically reacting lipids such as animal fat ( tallow), soybean oil, or some other vegetable oil with an alcohol, producing a methyl, ethyl or propyl ester by the process of transesterification. Unlike the vegetable and waste oils used to fuel converted diesel engines, biodiesel is a drop-in biofuel, meaning it is compatible with existing diesel engines and distribution infrastructure. However, it is usually blended with petrodiesel (typically to less than 10%) since most engines cannot run on pure Biodiesel without modification. Biodiesel blends can also be used as heating oil. The US National Biodiesel Board defines "biodiesel" as a mono-alkyl ester. Blends Blends of biodiesel and conventional hydrocarbon-based diesel are most commonly distributed for use in the retail diesel fuel marketplace. Much of the world uses a syste ...

Receptor-mediated Endocytosis
Receptor-mediated endocytosis (RME), also called clathrin-mediated endocytosis, is a process by which cells absorb metabolites, hormones, proteins – and in some cases viruses – by the inward budding of the plasma membrane (invagination). This process forms vesicles containing the absorbed substances and is strictly mediated by receptors on the surface of the cell. Only the receptor-specific substances can enter the cell through this process. Process Although receptors and their ligands can be brought into the cell through a few mechanisms (e.g. caveolin and lipid raft), clathrin-mediated endocytosis remains the best studied. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis of many receptor types begins with the ligands binding to receptors on the cell plasma membrane. The ligand and receptor will then recruit adaptor proteins and clathrin triskelions to the plasma membrane around where invagination will take place. Invagination of the plasma membrane then occurs, forming a clathrin-coated pit. ...

Rich Media Environment
OMA SpecWorks, previously the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) is a standards organization which develops open, international technical standards for the mobile phone industry. It is a nonprofit Non-governmental organization (NGO), not a formal government-sponsored standards organization as is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU): a forum for industry stakeholders to agree on common specifications for products and services. History The OMA was created in June 2002 as an answer to the proliferation of industry forums each dealing with a few application protocols: WAP Forum (focused on browsing and device provisioning protocols), the Wireless Village (focused on instant messaging and presence), The SyncML Initiative (focused on data synchronization), the Location Interoperability Forum, the Mobile Games Interoperability Forum, and the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum. Each of these forums had its bylaws, its decision-taking procedures, its release schedules, and in some instances ...

Green Chemistry Metrics
Green chemistry metrics describe aspects of a chemical process relating to the principles of green chemistry. The metrics serve to quantify the efficiency or environmental performance of chemical processes, and allow changes in performance to be measured. The motivation for using metrics is the expectation that quantifying technical and environmental improvements can make the benefits of new technologies more tangible, perceptible, or understandable. This, in turn, is likely to aid the communication of research and potentially facilitate the wider adoption of green chemistry technologies in industry. For a non-chemist, an understandable method of describing the improvement might be ''a decrease of X unit cost per kilogram of compound Y''. This, however, might be an over-simplification. For example, it would not allow a chemist to visualize the improvement made or to understand changes in material toxicity and process hazards. For yield improvements and selectivity increases, simp ...

Wuppertal-Ronsdorf Station
Wuppertal-Ronsdorf station is a station on the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen–Solingen railway in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. It is unusual in that it was once connected to lines with three different gauges. Location The station is located at the end of Nibelungenstraße in the Wuppertal district of Ronsdorf about 1.2 kilometres east of its centre at an altitude of 295 metres above sea level. Since the 1970s, it has been connected to the residential area of Rehsiepen, located east of the station, by a pedestrian bridge over the station's tracks. History During the construction of the Rittershausen–Remscheid line, a route was originally considered that would have run further west through Erbschlö and closer to central Ronsdorf. Topographic conditions led to the current route finally being selected; this runs through the hamlet of Blombach to the site of the station and continues along the Tannenbaumer We ...

Griffiss International Airport
Griffiss International Airport is a public airport located east of the central business district of Rome, a city in Oneida County, New York, United States. This airport is publicly owned by County of Oneida. It is located on the former site of Griffiss Air Force Base, which closed in 1995. In 1999, the airfield hosted Woodstock '99. Operations from the Oneida County Airport in Oriskany, New York, were transferred here in 2006, after which the county closed that airport in January 2007. In December 2013, Griffiss International Airport was selected as a test site by the United States Federal Aviation Administration to "aid in researching the complexities of integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the congested, northeast airspace." Students from the Rochester Institute of Technology will work with Griffiss to test drones at the airport. The airport continued test site operations until 2017. Griffiss is also a maintenance/storage facility for several regional airlines includ ...
