Riza Halimi
Riza Halimi ( sr-cyr, Риза Халими; born 16 September 1947) is a Serbian politician. An ethnic Albanians in Serbia, Albanian, he was the president of the Party for Democratic Action from its foundation until 2018, and now serves as the honorary president of the party. Life After his education as a physicist, he started teaching physics in high school. In March 2000, he was sentenced to three months in prison, and to a one-year probation sentence for obstructing a police officer from performance of his duties on at a protest by the citizens of Preševo over the Drenica massacres, Drenica massacre. He was elected a member of the National Assembly (Serbia), National Assembly three times. He was the president of the assembly of the municipality of Preševo. He was the only member of the Coalition of Albanians of the Preševo Valley in the assembly from 2008 and 2012. Preševo
Preševo ( sr-cyrl, Прешево; sq, Preshevë, ) is a town and municipality located in the Pčinja District of southern Serbia. It is the southernmost town in Central Serbia and largest in the geographical region of Preševo Valley. Preševo is the cultural center of Albanians in Serbia. According to the 2022 census, the town of Preševo had a population of 16,426 people, while the municipality had 59,104 inhabitants. Albanians form the ethnic majority of the municipality, followed by Serbs, Roma and other ethnic groups. Preševo Valley
The Preševo Valley ( sr-cyrl, Прешевска долина, Preševska dolina, al, Lugina e Preshevës) is a geopolitical region in southern Serbia, along the border with Kosovo. The valley geographically includes municipalities of Bujanovac and Preševo, and politically also Medveđa. It is home to most of the Albanian community in Serbia, who comprise most of the population with the rest being Serbs and Romani. As of 2022, the area has around 120,100 inhabitants. Terminology In Albanian the area is referred to as ''Lugina e Preshevës'' and in Serbian as ''Preševska dolina''. The Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak ( bs, Stranka demokratske akcije Sandžaka, sr, Странка демократске акције Санџака, SDA S) is a political party in Serbia, representing the Bosniak ethnic minority concentrated in Sandžak region. History The Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak (SDA) was founded on 29 July 1990 in Novi Pazar, as a branch of the Party of Democratic Action based in Sarajevo, which was then a pan-Yugoslav political party. 2014 Serbian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 16 March 2014, with nineteen electoral lists competing for 250 members of the National Assembly. The election was called early, after tensions in the coalition led by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić scheduled the election at the same time as the previously announced Belgrade City Assembly election. Voter turnout was 53.09%, with 3.22% of votes invalid. The Serbian Progressive Party and their coalition won the election by a landslide, receiving just under half the valid votes and winning an absolute majority of 158 seats in the assembly. Drenica Massacres
The Drenica massacres ( sr, Масакри у Дреници, Masakri u Drenici, al, Masakra në Drenicë) were a series of killings of Kosovo Albanian civilians committed by Serbian special police forces in the Drenica region of central Kosovo. Probation
Probation in criminal law is a period of supervision over an offender, ordered by the court often in lieu of incarceration.
