8th Rivers State House Of Assembly
The 8th Rivers State House of Assembly is the current session of the Rivers State legislature. It was formed after the 11 April and 18 2015 elections. Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 32 constituencies with members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the majority. The Assembly was inaugurated on 1 June 2015. The elected presiding officer (Speaker) was Ikuinyi O. Politics Of Rivers State
The Politics of Rivers State function within the framework of a presidential republic, with the Governor of Rivers State as both head of state and head of government. Rivers State is known for a politically engaged citizenry. The official seat of government is in Port Harcourt. Under the Constitution, Executive power is vested in the Governor. This does not change the fact that such authority may also be exercised through the Deputy Governor or Commissioners. Legislative power is vested in a 32-member unicameral House of Assembly. Kelechi Nwogu is a Nigerian politician, state legislatorand member of the 7th, 8th and 9th Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Omuma State Constituency. Nwoguis a member of the People’s Democratic Party. Early life Kelechi Godspower Nwogu was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He worked with Negris Nigeria Limited before venturing into private businesses. Political career Nwogu was first elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011 to represent Omuma state constituency. He succeeded Hon. Emmanuel Okatta. He was re-elected in 2015 and 2019.
