River Of Romance
''River of Romance'' is a 1929 American drama film directed by Richard Wallace and written by Ethel Doherty, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Dan Totheroh and John V.A. Weaver. The film stars Charles "Buddy" Rogers, Mary Brian, June Collyer, Henry B. Walthall, Wallace Beery, Fred Kohler and Natalie Kingston. It is based on the play ''Magnolia'' by Booth Tarkington. The film was released on June 29, 1929, by Paramount Pictures. Plot In 1830s Mississippi, Tom Rumsford (Charles "Buddy" Rogers) comes back to Magnolia Landing, his Parents' estate. Having been brought up in the north by Quaker relatives, he just hates violence and accordingly refuses a duel. As this is the only way in the south to settle a dispute between gentleman, Tom's father is so infuriated by his behavior that tom has no other choice but leave. Richard Wallace (director)
Richard Wallace (August 26, 1894 – November 3, 1951) was an American film director. He began working in the editing department at Mack Sennett Studios in the early 1920s. He later moved on to rival Hal Roach Studios where he began directing two-reel films, on some of which he collaborated with Stan Laurel. In 1926, Wallace began directing feature-length films. Several of Wallace's memorable films include three Shirley Temple films, '' A Night to Remember'' (1943) with Loretta Young, and '' The Little Minister'' (1934) with Katharine Hepburn. He was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America. He died of a heart attack. Anderson Lawler (May 5, 1902 – April 6, 1959) was an American actor and producer in film and theatre who had a career lasting from the 1920s through the 1950s. He began on Broadway before moving to featured and supporting roles in Hollywood over a ten-year career at the very beginning of the talking-picture era. After the end of his acting career, Lawler moved to the production end of the film industry as well as becoming a producer of legitimate theater in the late 1940s and 1950s.
