Ritz Theatre (Lincoln, England)
The Ritz is a former cinema and theatre in Lincoln, England, currently in use as a pub. History The Ritz was opened in 1937 under the ownership of Gerald Segelman and designed by Scottish architect Leslie C Norton. Seating was over two levels with 1,240 seats in the stalls and 510 in the circle, giving a total capacity of 1,750. The building was designed primarily as a cinema and its first offering on 22 February 1937 was San Francisco, starring Clark Gable and Jeanette MacDonald. In 1942 the building suffered minor damage due to German bombing. In 1954 The Ritz became the first cinema in Lincoln to have CinemaScope installed. Two years later, in January 1956, the building was bought by The Rank Organisation and, as result was renamed The Lincoln Odeon. In 1981, The Rank Organisation decided to close the cinema and it stood empty for the next 3 years. The Ritz Cinema, also known as the Ritz Theatre, is a heritage-listed cinema located at 43 St Pauls Street, in the Sydney suburb of Randwick in the City of Randwick local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Aaron Bolot and built in 1937 by C. & B. J. Williams. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The Ritz Theatre is a historic theater in Brunswick, Georgia. Built in 1899, it originally served as an opera house, but was later converted to a movie palace. The building is currently owned by the city of Brunswick and is a contributing property of the Brunswick Old Town Historic District. History The Grand Opera House was built in 1899 as the main opera house in Brunswick, Georgia. Plans for the construction of the building had been in place since 1895, and the building served as a replacement for the L'Arioso Opera House, which had been destroyed by a storm in 1896. In addition to the theater, the building housed several retailers on its first floor, and the second and third floors served as the general offices of the Brunswick and Birmingham Railroad. Ritz Theatre (Jacksonville)
The Ritz Theatre is an African-American oriented theatre in the LaVilla neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. The theater, which seats 426, is used for a variety of music, dance and theatrical productions, as well as movies. The spacious lobby is also used for private functions. Just off the lobby is the LaVilla Museum which holds of exhibits. LaVilla is considered "the mecca for African American culture and heritage" in Florida. The Ritz Theater (also known as the Milane Theatre or the Helen Stairs Theatre) is a historic theatre in Sanford, Florida, United States. It is located at 201 South Magnolia Avenue. The Walter Kerr Theatre, previously the Ritz Theatre, is a Broadway theater at 219 West 48th Street in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. The theater was designed by Herbert J. Krapp and was constructed for the Shubert brothers in 1921. The Ritz is a historic theater in the 6th Street district in Austin, Texas. The building's history includes use as a movie theater, music hall, club, and comedy house. It reopened after renovations in fall 2007 as the new downtown location for the Alamo Drafthouse. The venue temporarily closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was permanently closed in 2021 when the Alamo Drafthouse filed for bankruptcy.
