Riptide (2013 Film)
''Riptide'' (french: Ressac) is a Canadian drama film, directed by Pascale Ferland and released in 2013. Set in the Gaspésie region of Quebec, the film begins with the death of Édouard (Bobby Beshro) in an industrial accident soon after leaving town to seek work in the city, and centres on the effects of his death on his mother-in-law Dorine (Muriel Dutil), wife Gemma (Nicole-Sylvie Lagarde) and daughter Chloé (Clémence Dufresne-Deslières).Dennis Harvey"Montreal Film Review: ‘Riptide’" '' Variety'', September 16, 2013. The history of cinema in Quebec started on June 27, 1896 when the Frenchman Louis Minier inaugurated the first movie projection in North America in a Montreal theatre room. However, it would have to wait until the 1960s before a genuine Quebec cinema industry would emerge. Approximately 620 feature-length films have been produced, or partially produced by the Quebec film industry since 1943. Montreal World Film Festival
The Montreal World Film Festival (WFF; french: le Festival des Films du Monde) was one of Canada's oldest international film festivals and the only competitive film festival in North America accredited by the FIAPF (although the Toronto International Film Festival is North America's only accredited non-competitive festival). The public festival, which was founded in 1977 as a replacement for the defunct Montreal International Film Festival (1960–68), is held annually in late August in the city of Montreal in Quebec. The first issue of the newspaper was published on 27 November 1986. Later on the newspaper developed various local issues with more targeted content. In 2013, the newspaper dropped from weekly to biweekly publication. On April 29, 2015, it was announced that all shares owned by Paquet were purchased by a group of buyers composed of XPND Capital, a Quebec-based private equity firm, and two members of ''Voirs management team, Michel Fortin and Hugues Mailhot.
