Ripe (Slug Album)
''Ripe'' is the debut album by SLUG (UK band), SLUG, a Field Music production led by former Field Music touring bassist Ian Black (musician), Ian Black. The tracks "Cockeyed Rabbit Wrapped in Plastic", "Running to Get Past Your Heart" and "Greasy Mind" were selected for radio promotion, with a video being produced for the latter. Ian Black describes the writing process for the album as a series of 'what-if' scenarios- "What if we take a stoner metal riff and use it like a dub bass part....that was the idea. Let's add some 4 part harmonies some squelch bass, some hisses and triangle and you've got a peculiar, sinister song." He has cited horror movie soundtracks by Fabio Frizzi, Goblin (band), Goblin, Lalo Schifrin, Andrzej Korzyński and John Carpenter as a major influence on his songwriting. John Carpenter
John Howard Carpenter (born January 16, 1948) is an American filmmaker, actor, and composer. Boris Claudio "Lalo" Schifrin (born June 21, 1932) is an Argentine-American pianist, composer, arranger and conductor. He is best known for his large body of film and TV scores since the 1950s, incorporating jazz and Latin American musical elements alongside traditional orchestrations. He is a five-time Grammy Award winner, and has been nominated for six Academy Awards and four Emmy Awards. Goblin (band)
Goblin (also Back to the Goblin, New Goblin, Goblin Rebirth, the Goblin Keys, the Goblins and Claudio Simonetti's Goblin) is an Italian progressive rock band known for their film scores. They frequently collaborate with Dario Argento, most notably creating the scores for ''Profondo Rosso'' in 1975 and ''Suspiria'' in 1977. Because their collaborator Dario Argento specializes in creating horror, suspense and slasher/giallo genre movies, scores made by Goblin in these movies often had eerie and ominous tones. Field Music
Field Music are an English rock band from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England, that formed in 2004. The band's core consists of brothers David Brewis and Peter Brewis. Andrew Moore was the original keyboard player. Their line-up has at times featured members of both Maxïmo Park and The Futureheads. Field Music have been called one of the few bands to outlast the indie guitar band explosion of the mid-2000s. SLUG (UK Band)
Slug (stylised as SLUG) is the musical project of Ian Black. Under the alias, Black has so far released two studio albums: '' Ripe'' (2015) and '' HiggledyPiggledy'' (2018). However, in September 2022 it was announced that his 3rd album '' Thy Socialite!'' will be released on the 20th January 2023. Black had previously been a member of the North East surf-pop band The Bubble Project, as well a touring member of Field Music. Background When Field Music's tour finished at the end of 2010, Ian Black decided to go out on his own and record his debut album. After years of demoing songs, Black recorded his debut album at Field Music's Roker studio with Peter and David Brewis on production duties.
