Lambert Harwood Hillyer (July 8, 1893 – July 5, 1969) was an American film director and screenwriter. Biography Lambert Harwood Hillyer was born July 8, 1893, in Tyner, Indiana. His mother was character actress Lydia Knott. A graduate of Drake University, Drake College, he worked as a newspaper reporter and an actor in vaudeville and stock theater. During World War I he began working in motion pictures and became a prolific director and screenwriter, working on many silent-era Westerns by William S. Hart, Buck Jones, Tom Mix and others. Often associated with producer Thomas H. Ince, Hillyer expanded into romantic melodramas and crime films in the 1920s. John Merton
John Merton (born Myrtland F. LaVarre; February 18, 1901 – September 19, 1959) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1927 and 1959, mostly as a villain. He was the brother of filmmaker André de la Varre and William LaVarre and the grandfather of actress Diane Delano. Biography Born and raised in Seattle with three other brothers, Franklin, Claude, and William LaVarre, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He joined the New York Theatre Guild in 1919 and appeared in a variety of shows. He made his film debut as a police officer in '' Running Wild'' (1927) filmed in Long Island's Astoria Studios. Lee Roberts (June 17, 1913 – April 24, 1989) was an American film actor during the Hollywood Golden Age. Sometimes he is credited as Robert Allen or Lee J. Roberts. Career Little is known about this man who appeared in over 100 films between 1943 and 1959, according to the Internet Movie Database. Adele Buffington (born Adele Burgdorfer, and sometimes billed as Jess Bowers) was an American screenwriter of the silent and sound film eras of Hollywood. Early life Adele was born in St. Louis to Adolph Burgdorfer and Mary Elizabeth Frederick, both of whom were immigrants from Germany. Before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 16, she worked in a movie theater, where she got to watch countless films. Once she arrived in Los Angeles, she got a job selling tickets at a theater in Hollywood; she worked as a treasurer for several theaters during this time period.
