Henry Milner Rideout
Henry Milner Rideout (1877–1927) was a native of Calais, Maine. Author of sixteen novels, twenty-three short stories and novellas, and a biographical memoir, he also was editor of one college textbook, as well as co-editor of three others. Many of his stories appeared in ''The Saturday Evening Post''. Rideout's Life Rideout's father, a miller and road contractor, died when Rideout was twelve. Rideout's elder brother, who managed a bank in California, became the support of the family. At school, Rideout's ability caught the attention of his English teacher, Laura Burns, who was a cousin of the distinguished Harvard professor of English, Charles Townsend Copeland. She and Copeland motivated a group of Calais townspeople to lend Rideout the wherewithal to enter Harvard in 1895, where he was the first in his family to attend college. Paul Rideout (born 14 August 1964) is an English former professional footballer and youth team coach of Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City. As a player, he was a striker from 1980 until 2002, notably in the Premier League with Everton where he scored the winning goal in the 1995 FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. He also played in his native land for Swindon Town, Aston Villa, Southampton, Notts County and Tranmere Rovers. Thomas "Tom" Gerald Rideout (born June 25, 1948) is a former Canadian politician who served as the fourth premier of Newfoundland from March 22, 1989 to May 5, 1989. Life and career Born in Fleur de Lys, Newfoundland, Rideout was first elected to the provincial House of Assembly in the 1975 general election as a Liberal but left the party in 1980 to join the Progressive Conservative government of Premier Brian Peckford in its fight with Ottawa for control of offshore mineral resources. Rideout became minister of culture, recreation and youth in 1984 and became minister of fisheries in 1985. With Peckford's retirement from politics in 1989, Rideout was chosen Tory party leader and thus became premier of Newfoundland. Bonnie Rideout (born 1962 - Saline, Michigan USA) is an American fiddler. She is especially known for her traditional Scottish style and fiddle piobaireachd playing. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music. She is a recording artist, her touring career spanning three decades. October 1871-April 18, 1953) was an American sculptor born in Marysville, California who is primarily known for her work on The Woman's Building at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Biography Alice Rideout was born in Marysville, California. Her father was Captain J. Ransom Rideout. He had a fleet of steamers on San Francisco Bay. As a girl Rideout moved to San Francisco, where she attended high school. Sherwood Hayes Rideout (July 17, 1917 – May 29, 1964) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Westmorland from 1962 until his death in 1964. Prior to his election to the House of Commons of Canada, he was the mayor of the City of Moncton. During World War 2, Rideout acted as a train-master and was considered a key figure in the management of the train system and logistics planning that allowed vehicles, supplies and troop transports to be shipped through Moncton (known as the Hub City) to the port in Halifax. A Liberal, he was elected in the 1962 election. Nancie Rideout Robertson (12 May 1938 – 21 January 1996) was an American professional water skier. During her competitive career, Rideout won the inaugural Masters and two World Championships in jump. Biography Rideout, born in Jackson, Michigan, moved to Orlando, Florida at the age of 4. She started skiing after her father bought an outboard boat which came with a pair of water skis. Rideout's talents were noticed by Tommy Barlett, who added her as part of his traveling water ski show in 1955. The following year, she became a regular performer at Cypress Gardens. George Saunders Rideout (born 2 January 1945 in Moncton, New Brunswick) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1997. He was also the mayor of Moncton from 1983 to 1988. During his tenure as mayor, he laid the groundwork for Moncton's ascension as a regional hub of economic activity.
