Richard Thomson (theologian)
Richard Thomson, sometimes spelled Thompson, was a Netherlands, Dutch-born England, English theologian and translator. He was Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, Clare Hall, Cambridge and the translator of Martial's epigrams and among the "First Westminster Company" charged by James I of England with the translation of the first 12 books of the King James Version of the Bible. He was also known for his intemperance and his doctrinal belief in Arminianism. Life Commonly called "Dutch Thomson", he was born in Holland of English parents, and received his education at Clare Hall, where he graduated B.A. in 1587 and was elected fellow. He commenced M.A. in 1591, and was incorporated in that degree at Oxford on 1 July 1596. Bishop Lancelot Andrewes presented him to the rectory of Snailwell, Cambridgeshire. Richard Thomson (antiquarian)
Richard Thomson (1794–1865) was an English librarian and antiquary. Life Born at Fenchurch Street in London, England, Richard Thomson was the second son of a Scot who was a partner in the firm of seed merchants Gordon, Thomson, Keen & Co. For many years Thomson worked on the antiquities of London. Heraldry was one of his hobbies, and in his early life he assisted investigations of family history. On 14 August 1834, Thomson and Edward William Brayley were elected joint-librarians of the London Institution in Finsbury Circus, in succession to William Maltby. Thomson held the post for the rest of his life. Thomson died at his rooms in the Institution on 2 January 1865, aged 70. He was buried at Kensal Green cemetery, in the grave of a brother who had predeceased him. Legacy A monument was erected to his memory. He was unmarried and died wealthy. Richard Harry Thomson (born 19 October 1938) is a former English cricketer. Thomson was a left-handed batsman. He was born at Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex. Thomson made his first-class debut for Cambridge University against Lancashire in 1961. He made 22 further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against Oxford University in the 1962 University Match at Lord's. In his 23 first-class matches for the university, he scored a total of 853 runs at an average of 21.87, with a high score of 84. This score was one of five half centuries he made for the university and came against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1962. He also played two first-class matches for his native Sussex in the 1961 County Championship, against Leicestershire at Manor Sports Ground, Worthing and Worcestershire at the County Ground, Hove. Richard Gordon Thomson (born 16 June 1976) is a Scottish politician. He is a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP) He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gordon since the 2019 general election, having previously the leader of the SNP group on Aberdeenshire Council. He has been serving as SNP Spokesperson for International Trade since 2022, and SNP Spokesperson for Wales and Northern Ireland since 2021. Early life and education Thomson was born in Edinburgh in 1976, the son of Alexander and Ethel Thomson. He was educated at Tynecastle High School, Edinburgh, before going to the University of Stirling to study History and Politics. He gained a BA (Hons) in 1998.
