Richard Moore (New Zealand Politician)
Richard Moore (7 March 1849 – 12 September 1936) was an independent conservative Member of Parliament in New Zealand and Mayor of Kaiapoi. Biography Moore was born in London on 7 March 1849, the son of shoemaker John Moore and his wife Ann. He left England with his family on the ''Steadfast'' in February 1851, which arrived in Lyttelton on 8 June of that year. The family settled in Kaiapoi. At 21, he set himself up as a coachbuilder and wheelwright. Later on, he added saddlery to his business. When he sold the business he bought a shareholding in the Kaiapoi Produce Company and later became its sole owner. He was a large shareholder in the Kaiapoi Woollen Company. Moore chaired the school committee for 14 years. He was a member of the Kaiapoi Borough Council for eight years and was Mayor of Kaiapoi from 1884 to 1887. Hugo Friedlander
Hugo Friedlander (born Friedländer, January 1850 – 1 October 1928) was a New Zealand businessman, local politician, and horse breeder from Ashburton. Friedlander was born in a Jewish family in Kolmar, in the Prussian Province of Posen in 1850. The Victorian gold rush attracted him and his two brothers, Rudolph and Max, to come out to Australia. The brothers came to New Zealand in the late 1860s. At first, Friedlander lived in Orari working for Joseph Mendelson, riding into Ashburton every morning for an 8 am arrival (a distance of about ). Friedlander moved to Ashburton in 1872. In 1876, the three brothers bought Mendelson's business, which they renamed Friedlander Brothers. David Buddo
David Buddo (23 August 1853 – 8 December 1937) was a New Zealand politician and member of the Liberal Party. Early life Buddo was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1853. His father was a surgeon with the Indian civil service. He grew up in a rural environment. He became an engineer in Perth, Scotland and came to New Zealand in c. 1874 or 1877. He married Janet Buddo (née Rollo) in 1886. His wife's cousin, Helen Ann Rollo Buddo, became an orphan in infancy and was brought up by them together with their own children. Helen Buddo married Bryan Todd. Political career He was a Member of the House of Representatives, representing the Kaiapoi electorate (with two interruptions, when he was defeated) from: 1893– 96, 1899–1919, and 1922– 28. Kaiapoi was a rural New Zealand electorate, north of Christchurch in the Canterbury region of New Zealand from 1861 to 1946. It was represented by twelve Members of Parliament. Population centres The electorate was centred on the town of Kaiapoi to the north of Christchurch. In the , polling booths were in Kaiapoi, Clarkville, Rangiora and Woodend. History The electorate dates from 1861. Isaac Cookson was the first representative after winning the 1861.
