Richard Griffiths
Richard Thomas Griffiths (31 July 1947 – 28 March 2013) was an English actor of film, television, and stage. For his performance in the stage play ''The History Boys'', Griffiths won a Tony Award, a Laurence Olivier Award, the Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award. For the 2006 film adaptation, Griffiths was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He played Vernon Dursley in the ''Harry Potter'' films (2001-2010) and Great Uncle Matthew Brown "Gum" in the BBC film ''Ballet Shoes'' (2007). He also portrayed Uncle Monty in ''Withnail and I'' (1987), and Henry Crabbe in ''Pie in the Sky'' (1994–1997). Earlier in his career, he had supporting roles in such critically acclaimed films as ''Chariots of Fire'' (1981), ''The French Lieutenant's Woman'' (1981), ''Gandhi'' (1982), and '' The Naked Gun : The Smell of Fear'' (1991). Richard Griffiths (industrialist)
Richard Griffiths (1756–1826) was a Welsh industrial pioneer. Griffiths is notable for building the first recognised transport links into the Rhondda Valley paving the way for future coal exploration into one of the world's richest coal fields. Personal history Griffiths was a member of the Gellifendigaid family of Llanwonno; he was the third child, and second son to William Griffiths and Elizabeth ( née Davies). He was christened on 13 January 1756, and was brought up in a very strong Methodist family.Lloyd (1958), pg 307. Griffiths practised medicine in CardiffEvans (1959), pg 40. but it was through his family connections that he began prospecting in mineral rights for which he became best known. Richard Griffiths (historian)
Richard Thomas Griffiths (7 April 1948 in Isleworth, Middlesex, UK) is an English-Dutch historian. Early life Griffiths studied economic history and Russian studies at University College, Swansea and graduated with first class honours in 1970. He was a postgraduate students at Jesus College, Cambridge where he prepared his thesis the apparent stagnation of the Netherlands in the first half of the nineteenth century. He received his PhD in 1977. Career He was appointed lecturer in European Studies at the University of Manchester Institute for Science and Technology (now part of Manchester University) in 1973. From 1980 to 1987 he was professor of Social and Economic History at the Free University, Amsterdam. Rick Griffiths
Rick Griffiths (1948 – 13 December 2010) was an Australian Aboriginal activist and representative. He was the CEO of the Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council and one of the final Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commissioners prior to the abolition of the commission. Background Griffiths was born in 1948 in the town of Curlewis, outside Gunnedah, New South Wales. He subsequently moved to the Hunter Region where he lived for the rest of his life. Griffiths was a passionate rugby league player, coach and administrator and was responsible for establishing coaching camps for young Aboriginal players. He also established an Aboriginal rugby league coaching clinic at the University of Newcastle, producing up to 60 Aboriginal coaches, with many going on to become prominent coaches in their own communities. Dick Griffiths
Richard Griffiths (born 28 September 1907 – unknown) was an Irish professional footballer who played as a winger in the Football League for Walsall and once for the Irish Free State national team. Club career Griffiths made his debut for Walsall in a 3–2 defeat to York City in the Third Division North on 17 November 1934. In his second match two weeks later he scored as Walsall beat Accrington Stanley 6–0 at Fellows Park. He made only eight appearances in total for the club and scored one goal.
