Richard Alan Barnes (born 3 October 1944) is an English author, best known for his association with the mod subculture and the rock group The Who, including his book on the group ''Maximum R&B''. He gave The Who their name when he was roommates with Pete Townshend, after the group had originally been called The Detours. The Who Barnes started a course at Ealing Art College at the same time as Townshend and the two of them shared a flat together, bonding over their mutual love for old R&B and soul records. Townshend subsequently said that Barnes was "very important to The Who's thinking process in the early days. He and I used to sit around and talk about The Who as an installation, we wrote a manifesto for the group together." When Townshend's group, The Detours, needed a new name, the pair sat up all night suggesting joke names, until Barnes came up with The Who. Richard Barnes (1532 – 24 August 1587) was an Anglicanism, Anglican priest who served as a bishop in the Church of England during the reign of Elizabeth I of England, Elizabeth I. Early life, education and family He was born in Bold, St Helens, Bold which was then a village near St Helens, Merseyside, St Helens in south Lancashire. He attended Farnworth Grammar School and then was admitted to Brasenose College, Oxford. Here he was elected a fellow in 1552, and received his Bachelor of Arts, BA in 1553. This was followed by a Bachelor of Divinity, BD and then a Master of Arts, postgraduate MA in 1557. Finally he became a Doctor of Divinity, DD in 1579. Richard Michael Barnes (born 1 December 1947) is a British politician, who was the Deputy Mayor of London from 2008 to 2012. A former member of the Conservative Party, Barnes served as the Leader of the Conservatives on the London Assembly from 2007 to 2008, and was the Member of the London Assembly (AM) for Ealing and Hillingdon from 2000 to 2012, when he lost his seat to Labour. On 30 September 2014, Barnes defected to the UK Independence Party (UKIP). Richard Barnes (born 9 July 1944 in Surrey, England) is a British singer who saw limited chart success in the early 1970s. He has also worked as an actor. Career His professional music career started with The Quiet Five in 1964, where he played bass guitar and sang vocals. The group broke up around 1967. Barnes released a solo album on Philips Records in 1970, which was produced by Gerry Bron, and scored two chart hits in the UK Singles Chart that same year. His first hit, "Take to the Mountains" reached number 35 in May 1970, and "Go North" peaked at number 38 in November. Both hits were written by Tony Hazzard. A compilation album was released in August 2007 by RPM Records, under the title of ''Take To The Mountains''. It featured tracks recorded by Barnes between 1969 and 1974. Richard Kyle Barnes (born February 6, 1981) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour. Early years and amateur career Barnes was born in Stockton, California. He played college golf at the University of Arizona from 2000 to 2003. During that time he was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000, Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year in 2001, second-team All-American in 2000 and 2001 and first-team All-American in 2003. In 2002, he won the 102nd U.S. Amateur, defeating Hunter Mahan 2 & 1 in the final. Barnes and Mahan would share the 2003 Ben Hogan Award and would lead the United States to victory at the 2002 Eisenhower Trophy. In 2003 he was the low amateur at The Masters, where he finished 21st after outscoring his playing partner, Tiger Woods, by seven shots in the opening round.
