Richard Andvord
Sevald Theodor Richard Andvord (5 August 1839 – 8 November 1913) was a Norwegian businessperson, known for founding the company Rich. Andvord. Biography He was born at Lom in Oppland, Norway. He was the son of bailiff Paul Thorsteinson Andvord (1795-1863) and Thora Sevaldsdatter Kjæstad (1806–97). He moved to Christiania (now Oslo) in 1855 to work as an assistant in his uncle's shop. He also spent one year in Germany. In 1865 he opened his own store near Stortorvet which he named Rich. Andvord. He imported pens, paper and other writing materials. Andvord soon got many notable customers, including Henrik Ibsen, Edvard Grieg, Jonas Lie, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Edvard Munch, Fridtjof Nansen and Gustav Vigeland, and the store became a meeting place for artists and other notables. Richard Andvord (18 January 1920 – 3 February 1997) was a Norwegian businessperson and resistance member. Career Before World War II he worked in the family company Rich. Andvord in Oslo, founded by Richard Andvord in 1865. The company dealt with paper and other writing materials. World War II During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, he participated in resistance work. In the fourth floor of the company building near Stortorvet, false ID cards and travel licences were manufactured. Because of a far-reaching network of contacts, the counterfeiters managed to keep up with the authorities' constant change of paper quality, watermarks, etc. There was also a secret weapons stash on the sixth floor. In part, the weapons were brought by Andvord from the Gudbrandsdal valley, several hours north of Oslo, where they had been secretly paradropped. Frogner
Frogner is a residential and retail borough in the West End of Oslo, Norway, with a population of 59,269 as of 2020. In addition to the original Frogner, the borough incorporates Bygdøy, Uranienborg and Majorstuen. The borough is named after Frogner Manor, and includes Frogner Park. The borough has the highest real estate prices in Norway. Etymology The borough is named after the old Frogner Manor. The Norse form of the name was ''Fraunar'' (plural form), and is likely derived from the word ''frauð'' 'manure' — meaning 'fertilized fields'. (See also Frogn and Tøyen.) English-speaking foreigners may assume the word “Frogner” to be related to the English word frog but these words are not congnates. The word for “frog” in Norwegian is “frosk”. Johan Severin Svendsen (30 September 184014 June 1911) was a Norwegian composer, conductor and violinist. Born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway, he lived most his life in Copenhagen, Denmark. Svendsen's output includes two symphonies, a violin concerto, a cello concerto, and the Romance for violin, as well as a number of Norwegian Rhapsodies for orchestra. At one time Svendsen was an intimate friend of the German composer Richard Wagner. Life Svenden's father was a music teacher and military bandmaster, who taught him both the violin and clarinet. He began playing at orchestras at age nine when he learned violin, and began composing by age eleven. At fifteen he enlisted in the military band at Akershus Fortress, playing clarinet, flute, trombone, and percussion among other instruments. The Cemetery of Our Saviour ( no, Vår Frelsers gravlund) is a cemetery in Oslo, Norway, located north of Hammersborg in Gamle Aker district. It is located adjacent to the older Old Aker Cemetery and was created in 1808 as a result of the great famine and cholera epidemic of the Napoleonic Wars. Its grounds were extended in 1911. The cemetery has been full and thus closed for new graves since 1952, with interment only being allowed in existing family graves. The cemetery includes five sections, including ''Æreslunden'', Norway's main honorary burial ground, and the western, southern, eastern and northern sections. Order Of Vasa
The Royal Order of Vasa () is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was instituted on 29 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone (as opposed to the Order of the Polar Star, which was intended as a reward for the learned professions). It was the most junior of all the Swedish orders. It was often awarded to Norwegian subjects of the dual monarchy until Oscar I founded the Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1847. Since 1974 the order is no longer conferred: officially it has been declared as "dormant", along with the Order of the Sword.
