Rice Garland
Rice Garland (September 30, 1799August 13, 1863) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served as a United States representative from Louisiana from 1834 to 1840. Biography Garland was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, and he pursued a basic education, studied law and was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law. He moved to Opelousas, Louisiana, in 1820 and continued the practice of his profession. Congress Garland was elected from the Louisiana's 3rd congressional district as an Anti-Jacksonian in 1833 to the Twenty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Henry Adams Bullard. He was reelected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and as a Whig Party (United States), Whig to the Twenty-fifth and Twenty-sixth Congresses, in which he served as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of War. Rice Alexander Pierce
Rice Alexander Pierce (July 3, 1848 – July 12, 1936) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives for the 9th congressional district of Tennessee. Biography Pierce was born on July 3, 1848 in Dresden, Tennessee in Weakley County. He attended the common schools in Tennessee, and during the Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army with the Eighth Tennessee Cavalry. After the war, he attended school in London, Ontario, Canada and studied law in Halifax, North Carolina. He was admitted to the bar of the supreme court in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1868. Career In 1869, Pierce commenced practice in Union City, Tennessee in Obion County. He served as mayor in 1872. He was elected the district attorney general of the twelfth judicial circuit in 1874. Rice Powell
Rice Powell was a Welsh Colonel in the Parliamentary army during the First English Civil War. In the Second English Civil War he allied himself with the Royalist cause. He fought in South Wales and played a significant part in events between 1642 and 1649 including a senior role during the Battle of St. Fagans. Background His background is uncertain but he is probably the son of a Lewis Powell and is from South Pembrokeshire, first coming to notice for his service in Ireland prior to the start of what was to become the First English Civil War, playing a part in quelling an insurrection in Ireland which was presumably his first taste of military life. Rice Rees
Rice Rees (31 March 1804 – 20 May 1839) was a Welsh cleric and historian. Life Rees was born at Ton, near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, Wales, son of David- of a distinguished Llandovery family- and Sarah Rees, and christened in the local Independent chapel. From 1819, he was educated for a short time at Lampeter grammar school, under Eliezer Williams, before being educated at home and by his uncle, William Jenkins Rees. He matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford in 1822. He was appointed to a college scholarship in 1825 and graduated with a B.A. degree in 1826 and a M.A. degree in 1828. His tutor was Llewelyn Lewellin, who in 1827 was appointed as the first Principal of St David's College, Lampeter (which later became the University of Wales, Lampeter). Rice Sheppard (April 2, 1861 – August 26, 1947) was a politician and farmers' activist in Alberta, Canada. He served on Edmonton City Council for many years, ran for mayoral, provincial, and federal office, and was an executive member of the United Farmers of Alberta. Early life Sheppard was born April 2, 1861 in Lambourn, Berkshire, England and was educated at the Wesleyan School. His father was James Sheppard, who was married to Louisa (née Barrett) Sheppard and in total they had 13 children. Family stories say that the Sheppard family was thrown out of Lambourn by the Squire for not being Church of England, although this would have been unlikely as there were many non-conformists in the town by this time, and there was no effective 'squire' anymore. James and Louisa moved to Essex, England. Rice took his first job when he was ten years old, working at a store.
