Rhodoplanes Azumiensis
''Rhodoplanes azumiensis'' is a thermotolerant bacterium isolated from sediment mud and cyanobacterial mats located in Nakanoyu hot springs, located in the Azumi district, Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. ''R. azumiensis'' is a photoheterotroph that is capable of using many organic materials as its carbon source. Colonies and liquid cultures exhibit a brownish red color when grown phototrophically, and are colorless when grown aerobically in darkness. Isolation Samples were taken from sediment mud and cyanobacterial mats located in Nakanoyu hot springs in Japan. The samples were then introduced to 20 mL screw-capped test tubes containing 10-mL of ''Rhodoplanes'' (RPL) medium and were incubated at 42°C. Pink cultures occurred and were plated on RPL agar plates and incubated aerobically at 42°C. Isolation streaking was conducted multiple times until 2 novel species were isolated. Nitrobacteraceae
The Nitrobacteraceae are a family of gram-negative, aerobic bacteria. They include plant-associated bacteria such as ''Bradyrhizobium'', a genus of rhizobia associated with some legumes. It also contains animal-associated bacteria such as ''Afipia felis'', formerly thought to cause cat-scratch disease. Others are free-living, such as ''Rhodopseudomonas'', a purple bacterium found in marine water and soils. The strain ''Rhodopseudomonas palustris'' DX-1 can generate an electric current with no hydrogen production, a trait being explored in the development of the microbial fuel cell. Carotenoids (), also called tetraterpenoids, are yellow, orange, and red organic pigments that are produced by plants and algae, as well as several bacteria, and fungi. Carotenoids give the characteristic color to pumpkins, carrots, parsnips, corn, tomatoes, canaries, flamingos, salmon, lobster, shrimp, and daffodils. Carotenoids can be produced from fats and other basic organic metabolic building blocks by all these organisms. It is also produced by endosymbiotic bacteria in whiteflies. Carotenoids from the diet are stored in the fatty tissues of animals, and exclusively carnivorous animals obtain the compounds from animal fat. In the human diet, absorption of carotenoids is improved when consumed with fat in a meal.
