Texas Long-nosed Snake
:''Common names: Texas long-nosed snake.'' ''Rhinocheilus lecontei tessellatus'' is a subspecies of nonvenomous colubrid snake, which is native to the western United States and northern Mexico. Geographic range ''R. l. tessellatus'' is found in the United States, primarily in Texas, but also in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Kansas, as well as in northern Mexico. Description The Texas long-nosed snake is a tricolor subspecies. Its color pattern consists of a cream-colored or white body, overlaid with black blotches, with red between the black. This color pattern gives it an appearance vaguely similar to that of a venomous coral snake, ''Micrurus tener'' or ''Micruroides euryxanthus''. It has an elongated snout, to which its common name refers. It may grow to approximately 30 inches (76 cm) in total length (including tail); record 41 inches (104 cm). Samuel Garman
Samuel Walton Garman (June 5, 1843 – September 30, 1927), or "Garmann" as he sometimes styled himself, was a naturalist/zoologist from Pennsylvania. He became noted as an ichthyologist and herpetologist. Biography Garman was born in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, on 5 June 1843. In 1868 he joined an expedition to the American West with John Wesley Powell. He graduated from the Illinois State Normal University in 1870, and for the following year was principal of the Mississippi State Normal School. In 1871, he became professor of natural sciences in Ferry Hall Seminary, Lake Forest, Illinois, and a year later became a special pupil of Louis Agassiz. He was a friend and regular correspondent of the naturalist Edward Drinker Cope, and in 1872 accompanied him on a fossil hunting trip to Wyoming. Alfredo Dugès
Alfredo Dugès (birth name- Alfred Auguste Delsescautz Dugès); (16 April 1826 – 7 January 1910) was a French-born, Mexican physician and naturalist born in Montpellier. He was the son of zoologist Antoine Louis Dugès (1797-1838). Alfredo Dugès is largely remembered for his extensive studies of Mexican herpetology. He studied medicine at the University of Paris, and in 1852 emigrated to Mexico. He settled in Guanajuato, where he worked as an Obstetrics, obstetrician, also giving classes in natural history at the ''Escuela de Estudios Superiores de Guanajuato''. With his brother, Entomology, entomologist Eugenio Dugès (1826-1895), he organized frequent field trips in order to collect specimens. Dugès published numerous scientific papers in several fields including herpetology, botany, and entomology.
