Reza Hormes-Ravenstijn
Reza Hormes-Ravenstijn, (born 6 February 1967 in Beek (Ubbergen)) is a Dutch cyclo-cross racer. She has won seven races during her career, one of those being the Dutch National Cyclo-cross Championship in 1995. During other Dutch Nationals she won two silver and two bronze medals in addition. Beek (Ubbergen)
Beek is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Berg en Dal, about 5 km east of Nijmegen. It was sometimes referred to as "Beek (bij Nijmegen)" or "Beek-Ubbergen" because there are many villages called Beek. History It was first mentioned in 814-815 as Bechi, and means brook. The village dates from the early Middle Ages and was an agricultural community. In the 19th century, it developed into a villa ward. The tower of the Saint Bartholomew's Church has elements which are probably from the 11th century. The current layout dates from 1650. Between 1948 and 1950, it was extensively repaired due to war damage. In 1840, it was home to 715 people. Beek was a separate municipality until 1 January 1818, when municipality Beek fused with "Ooij en Persingen" forming municipality Ubbergen. Gieten
Gieten is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 14 km east of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1223 as Geten. The etymology is unclear. Gieten is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Anloo. The village started to developed where the road from Groningen to Coevorden intersected with a road to Assen. The former village Bonnen was located to the east and contained the '' havezate'' Entinge from 1648 until its demolition in 1768. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from at least 1302. In 1626, it was heavily damaged during the Dutch Revolt, and rebuilt. The tower was built in 1804 as a replacement of a 17th century tower. Gieten was home to 464 people 1840. Huijbergen
Huijbergen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Woensdrecht, about southeast of Bergen op Zoom, close to the Belgian border. History The village was first mentioned in 1264 as in Huybergen. The etymology is unclear. In 1264, , Lord of Breda, sold the moorland around Huijbergen for cultivation. The village developed in 1278 around the monastery of the Hermits of Saint William. Only the gate wing of the monastery from the early-17th century remains. In 1847, an orphanage by the Brothers of Our Lady was established at the site. The building were severely damaged in 1944, and rebuilt in the 1950s in traditional style. The grist mill Johanna was built in 1862. In 1918, the miller was struck by lightning and died several month later. It was already a ruin in the 1940s.
