Reyka (TV Series)
''Reyka'', released as ''The Cane Field Killings'' in some countries, is a South African crime thriller television series created and written by Rohan Dickson. It is an M-Net original production co-produced by Quizzical Pictures and Serena Cullen Productions for subscription television channel M-Net, released in July 2021. ''Reyka'' was also co-produced for international distribution by Fremantle. The series received eight nominations at the 2022 South African Film and Television Awards, winning four of them, including Best Actress in a TV Drama for Kim Engelbrecht. It also received two 2022 International Emmy Award nominations for Best Drama and Best Performance by an Actress. ''Reyka'' was renewed for a second season by M-Net in November 2022. Kim Engelbrecht
Kim Suzanne Engelbrecht (born 20 June 1980) is a South African actress. She is the recipient of two South African Film and Television Awards as well as a nomination for an International Emmy Award. She is known for her roles as Lolly in the soap opera ''Isidingo'', Sgt. Noma Banks on the Syfy series ''Dominion'' (2014–2015), Marlize DeVoe on The CW show ''The Flash'' (2017–2018), and the titular character in ''Reyka'' (2021). Career Engelbrecht presented a local youth television programme called ''Take5'' in the 1990s. Much of Engelbrecht's work is localised in Johannesburg. Kim had a starring role in the South African film ''Bunny Chow'', directed by John Barker. Umzinto
Umzinto is a town, located in the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and falls under the uMdoni Local Municipality. It was a sugarcane growing area and the town was set up as the centre for a sugar mill. Etymology "Umzinto" is said to be derived from the Zulu "''umenzi wezinto''", meaning "the kraal r placeof accomplishment". According to an urban legend, the town's name derived from a visit by two men, one of whom was named Um. On encountering a stream, the men decided to cross it, but Um did not notice the crocodile lurking beneath the surface. Subsequently, Um was attacked by the crocodile, and bitten in half. Thozamile Taki
Thozamile Taki (born 1971), known as The Sugarcane Killer, is a South African serial killer who killed 13 women aged 18–25, dumping their bodies in agricultural plantations. On 19 January 2011, Taki was sentenced to 13 life sentences for the murders and an additional 208 years, 16 years for each of his victims of armed robbery. Taki murdered 10 victims in the sugarcane plantations around the town of Umzinto in the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal as well as a further three victims in the tea plantations near Port St. Johns in the Eastern Cape. Body parts of some of his victims are alleged to have been provided to a local traditional healer or sangoma. Taki was remanded at Westville Prison during his trial.
