''Returning to the 'A ( kk, А-ға оралу, ''A-ǵa oralý''; russian: Возвращение в «А») is a 2011 Kazakhstani drama film directed by Egor Konchalovsky. The film was selected as the Kazakhstani entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist. Plot A young, creative team of TV Russian and Kazakh cinematographers are sent on a perilous journey from Almaty to Afghanistan to film a documentary film ''In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great''. They are accompanied by a man who once fought on the land of Afghanistan and lost a leg in the fighting - Marat Ayumov. He is fluent in Persian, is familiar with the customs, traditions and Afghan laws. Egor Konchalovsky (russian: link=no, Его́р Андреевич Кончало́вский; born January 15, 1966) is a Russian film director, screenwriter and producer. He is the son of director Andrei Konchalovsky and actress Natalya Arinbasarova. Biography Was born on January 15, 1966, in Moscow. He studied at the international school St Clare's at Oxford and at Kensington Business College. He holds an MA in Art History from the University of Cambridge. This is a list of submissions to the 84th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Nine shortlisted contenders were revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations.
