Return To The Moon
''Return to the Moon'' is the debut studio album by American indie rock band EL VY, released on October 30, 2015 on 4AD. A collaboration between Matt Berninger (singer for The National) and Brent Knopf ( Ramona Falls, Menomena), the two musicians had befriended one another on tour and exchanged sketches of music and lyrics for years, before getting together in the winter of 2014 to formally record an album. Reception ''Return to the Moon'' was met with a largely favorable reception from music critics. On ''Metacritic'', the album has a weighted average score of 73 out of 100 based on 25 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Josh Modell of ''The A.V. Club'' praised ''Return to the Moon'' as "one of the best albums of 2015" and proclaimed that "it stands shoulder to miserable, brilliant shoulder" next to Berninger's work with The National. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Biography Greg Calbi was born on April 3, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, and raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Reilly High School in Fresh Meadows. Calbi earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Fordham University where he studied with Marshall McLuhan and his staff for 3 of those years. He then earned his master's degree in Political Media Studies (Speech Department) at the University of Massachusetts. During these college years, Calbi drove a NYC cab and sold ladies shoes, and was intent on becoming a documentary filmmaker. Andy Stack (musician)
Andy Stack is one of the founding members of the indie-rock duo Wye Oak and a solo artist under the moniker Joyero, as well as a remix artist and a composer and producer for film and commercial music. He has also performed as a member of EL VY, and Lambchop. Early life Stack was born and raised outside of Baltimore, Maryland. He studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he originally focused on bass guitar and upright bass, and later at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Music career Stack and Jenn Wasner formed Wye Oak as a recording duo in 2006, but Stack had played in bands with Wasner before that, dating back to when they met as high school classmates. Lost Lander
Lost Lander is an indie rock project founded by Matt Sheehy, touring multi-instrumentalist for Ramona Falls and EL VY, and former member of the duo Gravity & Henry. The band's name is taken from a dream Sheehy's mother had about a place where she spent part of her childhood named Lost Land Lake. Many of the band's songs are autobiographical for Sheehy, inspired by his personal experiences like the death of his mother, the disintegration of his marriage engagement, and his ensuing relationship with longtime friend/bandmate Sarah Fennell. Lost Lander has released three studio albums and performed over 200 shows in the US, Canada, Europe, and Russia. Ural Thomas (born 21 December 1939) is an American soul music singer. While Thomas has made music for over fifty years, his public performances span two eras: the 1950s through 1960s, and as Ural Thomas and the Pain from 2013 through the present. Early life and career Thomas was born in Louisiana, learning to sing in church. The seventh of sixteen children, his family relocated to Portland, Oregon when he was a young child. He attended Jefferson High School. Thomas became a professional singer in the 1950s as a young man, with over forty performances at the Apollo Theater.
