''Return to Montauk'' (''Rückkehr nach Montauk'') is a 2017 German drama film directed by Volker Schlöndorff. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. Plot During a book tour in the United States, Max meets and falls in love with a young woman. Many years later, Max returns to the United States, hoping to reunite with his former lover during a weekend on Long Island in Montauk. The plot is broadly inspired by Max Frisch's 1975 novel '' Montauk''. Volker Schlöndorff
Volker Schlöndorff (; born 31 March 1939 Friday) is a German film director, screenwriter and producer who has worked in Germany, France and the United States. He was a prominent member of the New German Cinema of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which also included Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders, Margarethe von Trotta and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. He won an Academy Awards, Oscar as well as the Palme d'Or at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival for ''The Tin Drum (film), The Tin Drum'' (1979), the film version of the novel by Nobel Prize in Literature, Nobel Prize-winning author Günter Grass. Paul Bonin is a singer and musician (electric bass, guitar) and a songwriter/composer. His body of published recorded work spans from 1980 to the present day. Bonin was born in Hammersmith, London and grew up in north London. He began playing bass in north London punk band "The Shit", the only band to play at the National Union of Students rally in Hyde Park in front of a crowd of 5000 in March 1979. Bonin played bass in The Jetset, recording and touring with the band from 1980 to 1982.
