Repose (painting)
''Repose'' (French: ''Le Repos'', 'Rest') is an oil on canvas painting by French painter Édouard Manet, from . It is held in the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, in Providence. The painting is a portrait of the artist Berthe Morisot, a regular model, who was married to Manet's brother, Eugène. She is wearing a white dress as she sits with a fan in her right hand on a red sofa, beneath a then-fashionable Japanese print (in this case ''The Dragon King Pursuing the Ama with the Sacred Jewel'' by Utagawa Kuniyoshi). Her gaze seems meditative and absent. There is a striking contrast between the light tone of her dress and the dark tones of the furniture and the serenity of the subject with the violent activity on the print that is exhibited above her head. Manet himself described the work as a study in physical and psychological repose — “not at all in the character of a portrait.” See also * List of paintings by Édouard Manet This is a list of some of the more wel ...

Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind
"Dear Lord and Father of Mankind" is a hymn with words taken from a longer poem, "The Brewing of Soma" by American Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier. The adaptation was made by Garrett Horder in his 1884 ''Congregational Hymns''. In many countries the hymn is most usually sung to the tune "Repton" by Hubert Parry; however, in the United States, the prevalent tune is "Rest" by Frederick Charles Maker. Text The text set appears below. Some hymnal editors omit the fourth stanza or resequence the stanza so that the fifth stanza as printed here comes last. If sung to Parry's tune, "Repton", the last line of each stanza is repeated. It is often customary, when singing the final stanza as printed here, to gradually sing louder from "Let sense be dumb...", reaching a crescendo on "...the earthquake, wind and fire", before then singing the last line "O still, small voice of calm" much more softly. The Brewing of Soma The text of the hymn is taken from a longer poem, "The Br ...
