Respect (UEFA Campaign)
Respect is a social responsibility programme launched in 2008 by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Its main objective is to work towards unity and respect across gender, race, religion and ability. Overview The Respect project at UEFA EURO 2012 tournament had four main stands: fighting against racism, increasing and improving access for fans with disabilities, promoting health through physical activity, and improving intercultural dialogue between fans. The ambassadors for the campaign were Italian referee Pierluigi Collina and Dutch footballer Clarence Seedorf. The campaign was mainly visible through TV spot which was broadcast at half-time during matches, as well as on screens at the stadiums. Part of the programme was in co-operation with the Football Against Racism in Europe network. Social Responsibility
Social responsibility is an ethical framework in which an individual is obligated to work and cooperate with other individuals and organizations for the benefit of the community that will inherit the world that individual leaves behind. Social responsibility is a duty every individual has to maintain; a balance between the economy and the ecosystem one lives within. A trade-off might perhaps exist between economic development, in the material sense, and the welfare of the society and environment. Social responsibility pertains not only to business organizations but also to everyone whose actions impact the environment. UEFA
Union of European Football Associations (UEFA ; french: Union des associations européennes de football; german: Union der europäischen Fußballverbände) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. Respect
Respect, also called esteem, is a positive feeling or action shown towards someone or something considered important or held in high esteem or regard. It conveys a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities. It is also the process of honoring someone by exhibiting care, concern, or consideration for their needs or feelings. Some people may earn the respect of individuals by assisting others or by playing important social roles. UEFA EURO 2012
The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2012 or simply Euro 2012, was the 14th European Championship for men's national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament, held between 8 June and 1 July 2012, was co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine (both first time hosts), and was won by Spain, who beat Italy 4–0 in the final at the Olympic Stadium, Kyiv, Ukraine. Poland and Ukraine's bid was chosen by the UEFA Executive Committee on 18 April 2007. The two host teams qualified automatically while the remaining 14 finalists were decided through a qualifying competition, featuring 51 teams, from August 2010 to November 2011. Pierluigi Collina (; born 13 February 1960) is an Italian former football referee. Clarence Seedorf
Clarence Clyde Seedorf (; born 1 April 1976) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player. He is regarded by many to be one of the best midfielders of his generation. Seedorf is considered one of the most successful players in UEFA Champions League history, as he is the only player to have won the Champions League with three clubs – once with Ajax, in 1995, once with Real Madrid, in 1998 and twice with AC Milan, in 2003 and 2007. The Fare network (formerly Football Against Racism in Europe) is a network set up to counter discrimination in European football. The network was set up in Vienna, Austria, in February 1999 after a meeting of football supporters' groups, football players' unions and football associations. Euro-Sportring
Euro-Sportring is a foundation that organises international sports tournaments, particularly for youth teams. The objective of the foundation is to promote international contacts between sports clubs and similar organisations through the medium of sport, in order to make a contribution to a better understanding between sportsmen of different nationalities and thereby to a united Europe. Tournaments The programme comprises football and handball tournaments in 12 European countries. UEFA Respect Fair Play Ranking
The UEFA Respect Fair Play ranking was used by UEFA from 1995 to the 2015–16 season to grant three berths for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. Since that time it has granted a monetary prize to winning associations. Qualification system 1995–1998 The three highest-performing associations in the UEFA Fair Play ranking were given an extra UEFA Cup berth for the best-finishing team in their top division who have not qualified for the following season's UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup or UEFA Cup.
