Residente (album)
''Residente'' (stylized as ''Resīdεntә'') is the debut solo album from Puerto Rican rapper of same name, released on March 31, 2017, by Sony Music Latin during the hiatus of his main band Calle 13. Following a DNA test which revealed that he descends from people of multiple parts of the world, Residente felt inspired to visit those locations and record with local musicians. The trips resulted in a 13-track album, two of which ("Somos Anormales" and " Desencuentro") were released as singles and received promotional videos. The Album won Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. A documentary and book (both homonymous to the album) were also prepared based on his journey. A world tour will follow the album's release with shows in France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Puerto Rico. René Pérez Joglar (born February 23, 1978), known professionally as Residente (often stylized as Resīdɛntə), is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as one of the founders of the alternative rap band Calle 13. Residente released five albums with Calle 13 before announcing his solo career in 2015. Residente released his debut solo album in 2017. He has won four Grammy Awards and 27 Latin Grammy Awards— more than any other Latin artist. Residente has also delved into producing documentaries including ''Sin Mapa'' (2009) and ''Residente'' (2017) and has directed some of his own music videos. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Residente developed an interest in art, music, and left-wing politics at an early age. "Somos Anormales" ("We Are Abnormal") is the debut single by Puerto Rican rapper Residente, released on January 13, 2017, as the first single from his 2017 debut solo album ''Residente''. It won the 2017 Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Song. Composition and lyrics The song was written and recorded in Kyzyl, Tuva, Siberia, where Residente spent one week. It features throat singing band Chirgilchin. According to him, they are singing in Tuvan a concept he originally wrote in Spanish, then translated to English so they could finally translate it to their native language. Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format.
