Rephlexions! An Album Of Braindance!
''Rephlexions! An Album of Braindance!'' is a 2003 compilation album released by Rephlex Records. Critical reception Heidi Chapson of ''Exclaim!'' said, "From electro to Squarepusher-esque Drum and bass, drum & bass antics to melodic Avant-garde, avant-gardism, the scope on this 19-track compilation is broad but cohesive, all presented in a timeless fashion." Dave Segal of ''Stylus Magazine'' gave the album a grade of B+, saying, "Rephlex remains one of the world's quirkiest and most inquisitive labels." Heath K. Hignight of ''XLR8R'' commented that "Bochum Welt's 'Radiopropulsive' and Yee-King's 'Goodnight Toby' are perfect examples of the Rephlex sound: a warp of perky melody and punchy acid feel that is at once culturally avant garde and musically Retro style, retro." Electronic Music
Electronic music is a genre of music that employs electronic musical instruments, digital instruments, or circuitry-based music technology in its creation. It includes both music made using electronic and electromechanical means ( electroacoustic music). Pure electronic instruments depended entirely on circuitry-based sound generation, for instance using devices such as an electronic oscillator, theremin, or synthesizer. Electromechanical instruments can have mechanical parts such as strings, hammers, and electric elements including magnetic pickups, power amplifiers and loudspeakers. Such electromechanical devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, electric piano and the electric guitar."The stuff of electronic music is electrically produced or modified sounds. ... two basic definitions will help put some of the historical discussion in its place: purely electronic music versus electroacoustic music" ()Electroacoustic music may also use electronic effect units to ...

Bochum Welt
Bochum Welt is the stage name of the Italian electronic musician Gianluigi Di Costanzo. Di Costanzo has released numerous records on established record labels. His first single for Aphex Twin's Rephlex label,Rephlex Records, Discography "Scharlach Eingang" (1994), published by Warner/Chappell Music, was sufficiently accomplished that the British music magazine ''NME'' ran an article claiming that Bochum Welt was another of Aphex Twin's myriad alter egos. Global Goon
Global Goon is a former British programmer from Lydiate, England who earned a recording contract with Rephlex Records. Global Goon has also been rumored to have released five acid records under the alias Syntheme on both Planet Mu and WéMè between 2007 and 2009, but this remains unconfirmed and Syntheme is also known as Louise Helena Wood, from Brighton, England. Music critics have characterized Global Goon's style as ambient music and "easy listening fusion". From Bessemer Cocktail and after, his music took a turn towards acid house rather than the easy listening downtempo. The Gentle People
The Gentle People were a band formed in the United States in 1995. Their sound explored kitschy 1950s lounge and easy listening aesthetics in the context of 1990s club culture. They signed to the UK electronic label Rephlex Records in 1995 and released two albums: ''Soundtracks for Living'' (1997) and ''Simply Faboo'' (1999). Career The four members of the Gentle People variously came from the US, UK, and France, and performed under the names Dougie Dimensional, Laurie LeMans, Valentine Carnelian, and Honeymink. The group describe themselves as an "audio-visual experience" and labeled their sound "E-Z-Core." They were signed to Rephlex Records (co-run by Richard D. James a/k/a Aphex Twin), despite the group's "relaxed brand of sugar-coated, vocal-based easy listening" being quite different from the output on that electronic label. The signing occurred after they mailed a demo and postcard. The 1995 track "Journey" was their first release. The released the EP ''Emotion Heater'' in ...

Like A Tim
In English, the word ''like'' has a very flexible range of uses, ranging from conventional to non-standard. It can be used as a noun, verb, adverb, adjective, preposition, particle, conjunction, hedge, filler, and quotative. Uses Comparisons ''Like'' is one of the words in the English language that can introduce a simile (a stylistic device comparing two dissimilar ideas). It can be used as a preposition, as in "He runs ''like'' a cheetah"; it can also be used as a suffix, as in "She acts very child-''like''. It can also be used in non-simile comparisons such as, "She has a dog ''like'' ours". As a conjunction ''Like'' is often used in place of the subordinating conjunction ''as'', or ''as if''. Examples: * They look ''like'' they have been having fun. * They look ''as if'' they have been having fun. Many people became aware of the two options in 1954, when a famous ad campaign for Winston cigarettes introduced the slogan " Winston tastes good—like a cigarette sh ...

Slipper (band)
Slippers are a type of shoes falling under the broader category of light footwear, that are easy to put on and off and are intended to be worn indoors, particularly at home. They provide comfort and protection for the feet when walking indoors. History The recorded history of slippers can be traced back to the 12th century. In the West, the record can only be traced to 1478. The English word "slippers" (''sclyppers'') occurs from about 1478. English-speakers formerly also used the related term "" (from French ). Slippers in China date from 4700 BCE; they were made of cotton or woven rush, had leather linings, and featured symbols of power, such as dragons. Native American moccasins were also highly decorative. Such moccasins depicted nature scenes and were embellished with beadwork and fringing; their soft sure-footedness made them suitable for indoors appropriation. Inuit and Aleut people made shoes from smoked hare-hide to protect their feet against the frozen ground insi ...

Ensemble (band)
Olivier Alary is a Montreal-based musician and composer who has released his own recordings, as well as composing for film and exhibitions. A native of Toulouse, France, and a former student of architecture, Alary created Ensemble in 1998 as a musical persona through which to explore the encounter between melodic noise and disjointed pop. He moved to London to study music and in 2000 he released his first album ''Sketch Proposals'' under the name Ensemble with Rephlex Records. ''Sketch Proposals'' caught the attention of Björk, and Alary's remixes of three of her songs – "Sun in My Mouth", "Cocoon" and "Mouth's Cradle" – were released as B-sides. He went on to co-write the song " Desired Constellation" with Björk on her 2004 album ''Medúlla''. Alary's follow-up album, the self-titled ''Ensemble'', blends symphonic wall-of-sound with intimate folk-pop vocals, and was released in 2006. It features vocal performances by Chan Marshall (of Cat Power fame), Lou Barlow and Mil ...

Astrobotnia
Rephlex Records was a record label launched in 1991 in Cornwall by electronic musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. The label coined the term ''braindance'' to describe the output of Aphex Twin and fellow artists. History In 1989, Grant Wilson-Claridge met Richard D. James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin) DJing at The Bowgie, a club located just along the coast from Newquay, Cornwall. According to Wilson-Claridge, back in 1989, "the Bowgie was the best club ever...this was before Newquay turned into the Cornish Ibiza" and it was very difficult to hear new and interesting music. Wilson-Claridge and James used to DJ on alternate weeks. When he noticed that James was playing his own tapes rather than records, Wilson-Claridge suggested that they press up some records. In the beginning, committing Aphex Twin recordings to vinyl was a way of making music the duo's friends wanted to hear. Due to their geographical dis-location they did not have access to the music th ...
