California's 8th Congressional District
California's 8th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California. As of 2021, Republican Jay Obernolte represents the district. Currently, the 8th district encompasses most of the eastern desert regions of the state. It stretches from Mono Lake to Twentynine Palms. It consists of Inyo and Mono counties plus most of the land in San Bernardino County. It is the largest and thus the least dense congressional district in California. The largest city in the district is Victorville. Redistricting before the 2022 election moved the district to the northeastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It comprises parts of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties and covers much of the San Gabriel Foothills. Michael Joseph Garcia (born April 24, 1976) is an American politician and former United States Navy pilot serving as the U.S. representative for California's 27th congressional district. A Republican, he was first elected in a May 2020 special election and went on to win a full term in the general election. Garcia was born in Granada Hills, California, and educated at Saugus High School, the United States Naval Academy, and Georgetown University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1998 to 2012, participating in multiple combat missions during the Iraq War. Following his active duty in the Navy he worked at Raytheon Intelligence & Space. Jay Phillip Obernolte ( ; born August 18, 1970) is an American politician, businessman, and video game developer serving as the U.S. representative for since 2021. A Republican, he was previously a member of the California State Assembly representing the 33rd district. Before serving in the Assembly, Obernolte served in the city council and was the mayor of Big Bear Lake, California. He is the owner, president, and technical director of FarSight Studios, an American video game developer. Eric Michael Swalwell (born November 16, 1980) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for California's 15th congressional district since 2013.
