Reform Party Of Syria
The Reform Party of Syria ( ar, حزب الاصلاح السوري ''Ḥizb Al-Iṣlāḥ Al-Sūrīy''), or RPS is a secular Syrian political party and lobbying, lobby group based in the United States that was active in the mid to late 2000s. Its leader, Farid Ghadry, is a United States citizen and has been described as "controversial" by ''Al Jazeera''. According to the RPS, they were formed as a response to September 11 attacks, 9/11. It is a member of fellow lobbying organization the Coalition Against Terrorist Media. An opposition party against the ruling Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party – Syria Region, the Reform Party of Syria advocates for a "New Syria" characterised by democratic and economic reform. Farid Ghadry
Farid Al-Ghadry (Arabic language, Arabic: فريد الغادري) (born June 18, 1954) is the Syrian-born co-founder and current president of the United States-based Reform Party of Syria, a party lobbying for regime change in Syria. Al-Ghadry has been compared to Ahmed Chalabi, the Iraqi exile who lobbied the US government to liberate his home country from Saddam Hussein. Personal life Ghadry was born in Aleppo, Syria, but in 1964 his family emigrated to Beirut, Lebanon because of political turmoil. There he attended the Maristes Brothers School (Champville - Deek-el-Mehdi). In 1975, the Ghadry family emigrated to the U.S. and settled in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Politics in the Syrian Arab Republic takes place in the framework of a presidential republic with nominal multiparty representation in parliament but with most opposition parties suppressed. President Bashar al-Assad, and his Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party have remained dominant forces in the country's politics since the 1970 coup d'état. Until the early stages of the Syrian uprising, the president had broad and unchecked decree authority under a long-standing state of emergency. Haitham al-Maleh ( ar, هيثم المالح, born August 15, 1931) is a Syrian human rights activist and former judge. He is a critic of the current Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad and has been imprisoned by the Syrian government because he was calling for constitutional reforms. Maleh became an important opposition figure in the Syrian Civil War.
