Joe Comerford
Joe Comerford (born 1947) is an Irish film director. His film '' Reefer and the Model'' (1988) earned three nominations at the European Film Awards, winning none. Career Comerford was born in 1947 in Dublin, Ireland, graduating from the National College of Art and Design in the 1960s. In the 1970s, he began working for RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster, where he learned camera operating and general studio production. Two years later, he left RTE to make independent films. In 1969, he made ''Swan Alley''. His first public short, ''Emtigon'' (1971) was followed by ''Withdrawal'' (1973) and ''Down the Corner'' (1977). He has directed three feature films – ''Traveller'' (1981), written by Neil Jordan, '' Reefer and the Model'' (1988) and '' High Boot Benny'' (1993). Seán Ó Coistealbha (1930–2006) was an Irish poet and dramatist. Ó Coistealbha was born in Inverin, Connemara Connemara (; )( ga, Conamara ) is a region on the Atlantic coast of western County Galway, in the west of Ireland. The area has a strong association with traditional Irish culture and contains much of the Connacht Irish-speaking Gaeltacht, ..., where he was more commonly known as Johnny Chóil Mhaidhc. Birdy Sweeney (14 June 1931 – 11 May 1999) was an Irish actor and comedian. Born Edmund Francis Sweeney in Dungannon, County Tyrone, he garnered his nickname "Birdy" from his childhood ability to imitate bird calls which he demonstrated on BBC Radio Ulster. Eve Watkinson (6 March 1909 – 15 November 1999) was an Irish stage, film and television actress. Biography Eve Panton Watkinson was born 6 March 1909 in Terenure to Arthur Panton Watkinson and Kate née Hollingsworth. Her father was the director of an interior decorating company called A. Panton Watkinson on St Stephen's Green. She learned acting working with an amateur group in Capel Street called Torch Theatre. Ray McBride (1952 – 27 July 2021) was an Irish dancer and stage, film and television actor. Career Born in Bohermore, Galway, McBride was educated at Claddagh national school and St Mary's College. He trained as an Irish dancer and won several All-Ireland medals at various feiseanna. It was during his secondary schooling that McBride developed an interest in athletics and was awarded a scholarship to East Tennessee State University. He won a gold medal in the 3,000 metres steeplechase in the Catholic Student Games in Madrid, and later won gold medals in the 800 metres and the 1,500 metres in the Tailteann Games in Dublin. While in Tennessee, McBride studied speech and drama and first became interested in acting.
