Red Letter Day (TV Series)
'' Red Letter Day'' is a 1976 British television anthology series screened on ITV, and produced by Granada Television. The series consists of seven stand alone teleplays that aired between 11 January 1976, and 22 February 1976. Each teleplay examined the events in a single, special day in someone's life. ITV (TV Network)
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. ITV was for four decades a network of separate companies which provided regional television services and also shared programmes between each other to be shown on the entire network. Each franchise was originally owned by a different company. After several mergers, the fifteen regional franchises are now held by two companies: ITV plc, which runs the ITV1 channel, and STV Group, which runs the STV channel. Roddy McMillan
Roddy McMillan OBE (23 March 1923 – 9 July 1979) was a Scottish actor and playwright, possibly most famous for his comedy role as Para Handy for BBC Scotland's television series, ''The Vital Spark''. He also played the lead role in Edward Boyd's private eye series, ''The View from Daniel Pike''. Biography The Glasgow-born McMillan worked for a time in a glassworks. His theatre work began in the mid-1940s with the Glasgow Unity Theatre. Later that decade, he began acting with the Glasgow Citizen's Company before moving on to Edinburgh's Gateway Theatre in the mid-1950s. His first play, ''All in Good Faith'', about a Glasgow family which unexpectedly comes into possession of £15,000, was first staged in 1954. Bill Dean
Bill Dean (born Patrick Anthony Connolly, 3 September 1921 – 20 April 2000) was a British actor who was born in Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire. He took his stage name in honour of Everton football legend William 'Dixie' Dean. Biography Dean served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, seeing action in North Africa and Italy. He worked variously as a tram driver, pipe fitter, insurance agent, ship's steward, docker and local government officer, while also appearing as a stand-up comedian in Lancashire clubs and pubs, before making his breakthrough in Ken Loach's '' The Golden Vision''. Other work with Loach followed, including a leading role in the film ''Family Life'' (1971). Dean was most notable in his later years for playing miserly Harry Cross in the soap opera ''Brookside''. Gladys Ambrose (28 December 1930 – 4 July 1998) was an English actress of film and television, best known for her role as the gossipy Julia Brogan on the long-running soap opera, ''Brookside'', which she played from 1985 until just before her death from cancer in July 1998 at the age of 67. Ronald Radd
Ronald Radd (22 January 1929 – 23 April 1976) was a British television actor. He is perhaps best remembered for originating the role of Hunter in the television thriller series ''Callan''. In 1971, he was nominated for a Tony Award for ''Abelard and Heloise''.
