General Quarters
General quarters, battle stations, or action stations is an announcement made aboard a navy, naval warship to signal that all hands (everyone available) aboard a ship must go to battle stations (the positions they are to assume when the vessel is in combat) as quickly as possible. According to ''The Encyclopedia of War'', formerly "[i]n naval service, the phrase 'beat to quarters' indicated a particular kind of drum roll that ordered sailors to their posts for a fight where some would load and prepare to fire the ship's guns and others would arm with muskets and ascend the rigging as sharpshooters in preparation for combat." Aboard U.S. Navy vessels, the following announcement would be made using the vessel’s public address system (known as the 1 Main Circuit, 1MC): General Quarters, General Quarters. All hands man your battle stations. The route of travel is forward and up to starboard, down and aft to port. Set material condition 'Zebra' throughout the ship. Reason for ... Red Alert (novel)
''Red Alert'' is a 1958 novel by Peter George about nuclear war. The book provided the underlying narrative structure for Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film '' Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb''. Kubrick's film differs significantly from the novel in that the film is a black comedy. Originally published in the UK as ''Two Hours to Doom'', with George using the pseudonym "Peter Bryant" (Bryan Peters for the French translation, ''120 minutes pour sauver le monde''), the novel deals with the apocalyptic threat of nuclear war and the almost absurd ease with which it can be triggered. A genre of such topical fiction, of which ''Red Alert'' was among the earliest examples that sprang up in the late 1950s, led by Nevil Shute's '' On the Beach''. Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler's later best-seller, ''Fail-Safe'', so closely resembled ''Red Alert'' in its premise that George sued on the charge of copyright infringement, resulting in an out-of-court set ... Condition Critical
''Condition Critical'' is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Quiet Riot. Released in 1984, it was not nearly as successful as its predecessor (1983's ''Metal Health'') in either fan reaction or sales. However, it did sell over one million copies, peaking at 15 on the US ''Billboard'' 200 album chart. Like the band's previous album, ''Condition Critical'' features a Slade cover song as the second track. While the previous album included a cover of " Cum On Feel the Noize", this album contains " Mama Weer All Crazee Now". Tracks "Party All Night" (also known as "Party All Nite") and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" had music videos made for them, both receiving some airplay on TV. The same man with a metal mask from the last album cover is on this cover as well as many of the band's subsequent album covers, establishing him as the band's mascot. The character also has cameos in both aforementioned music videos. The track "Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet" shar ...
