Read My Lips (Lou Ann Barton Album)
''Read My Lips'' is an album by the American singer Lou Ann Barton, released in 1989. ''The Plain Dealer'' called the album a throwback to a time when "regional styles flourished, were celebrated and enriched popular music." Barton's two earlier 1980s albums were already out of print by the time of ''Read My Lips release. The album's title is a reference to George H. W. Bush's then-recent campaign promise. Production A covers album, ''Read My Lips'' was recorded with several guest musicians, including saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman and members of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The main players included guitarist Derek O' Brien, bassist Jon Blondell, and drummer George Rains. The album was produced by Paul Ray. Critical reception ''Spin'' thought that the album "captures the sound and spirit of a 50s Excello or Duke recording without sacrificing 80s technology." Lou Ann Barton
Lou Ann Barton (born February 17, 1954) is an American blues singer based in Austin, Texas since the 1970s. AllMusic noted that "The grace, poise, and confidence she projects on-stage is part of a long tradition for women blues singers". Biography In 1975, she joined up with W. C. Clark to form his W. C. Clark Blues Revue. In late September 1977 Barton joined a new Austin blues group Triple Threat Revue, with Stevie Ray Vaughan and W. C. Clark. It was renamed Double Trouble when Clark left in May 1978, and Barton continued with Double Trouble until November 1979. In the early 1980s, she did a stint with the jump blues band Roomful of Blues. It was there that she was spotted by the record producer Jerry Wexler. She recorded the album ''Old Enough'' for Asylum Records in 1982, a well-received recording that was co-produced by Jerry Wexler and Glenn Frey. Content The book was released on 31 October 2006 and was written by Tony Russell and Chris Smith with contributions by Neil Slaven, Ricky Russell and Joe Faulkner. Blues
Blues is a music genre and musical form which originated in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s. Blues incorporated spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads from the African-American culture. The blues form is ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, and is characterized by the call-and-response pattern (the blues scale and specific chord progressions) of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. Blue notes (or "worried notes"), usually thirds, fifths or sevenths flattened in pitch, are also an essential part of the sound. Fabulous Thunderbirds
The Fabulous Thunderbirds are an American blues band formed in 1974. Career After performing for several years in the Austin, Texas blues scene, the band won a recording contract with Takoma/Chrysalis Records and later signed with Epic Records. In 2011, they signed with Severn Records. Their first two albums were released in 1979 and 1980, with Kim Wilson's lead vocals and harmonica, Jimmie Vaughan as lead guitarist, and Keith Ferguson on bass guitar. Mike Buck was on drums for the first album but left the band and was replaced by Fran Christina on the second. Both albums initially sold through the small number printed (about 3000 units) and are now regarded as significant blues recordings. The Thunderbirds' blues style mixed Texas blues with the harmonica-laced swamp blues sounds of Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester—both of whom the Thunderbirds covered.
