Ras Al Hadd Airport
Ras al Hadd Airport is a new airport in Ash Sharqiyah Region of Oman, about 30 km south of the town of Ras al Hadd. Construction began in 2011, and was completed December, 2018. The airport is inland from the Arabian Sea coast. The Sur VOR-DME (Ident: SUR) is located northwest of the airport. Raʾs al-Ḥadd ( ar, رَأْس ٱلْحَدّ) is a village in Ash Sharqiyah district in Oman. It is on a point at the entrance to the Gulf of Oman. The region is served by Ras al Hadd Airport. Geography Al Hajar Mountains are located to the west. The beaches at Ras al Hadd and nearby '' Ra's al-Jinz'' are known as a breeding ground for green sea turtles. Ash Sharqiyah Region (Oman)
Ash-Sharqiyyah Region ( ar, ٱلْمِنْطَقَة ٱلشَّرْقِيَّة, Al-Minṭaqah Ash-Sharqiyyah, lit=The Eastern Region) was the eastern '' minṭaqah'' (region) of the Sultanate of Oman. The capital of Ash-Sharqiyyah is Sur. On 28 October 2011 Ash Sharqiyah Region was split into Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate and Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate. Ash Sharqiyah Region consisted of eleven provinces ('' Wilāyāt''): Sur, Ibra, Al-Mudhaibi, Al-Kamil Wal-Wafi, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, Wadi Bani Khalid, Dema Wa Thaieen, Bidiya, Al Qabil, and Massirah. The Arabian Sea ( ar, اَلْبَحرْ ٱلْعَرَبِيُّ, Al-Bahr al-ˁArabī) is a region of the northern Indian Ocean bounded on the north by Pakistan, Iran and the Gulf of Oman, on the west by the Gulf of Aden, Guardafui Channel and the Arabian Peninsula, on the southeast by the Laccadive Sea and the Maldives, on the southwest by Somalia, and on the east by India. VOR-DME
In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. It became much more practical with the introduction of low-cost Solid state (electronics), solid state receivers in the 1960s. DME was a modification of World War II-era navigation systems like Gee-H, and began development in 1946. Like VOR, it only became practical with the introduction of solid state receivers during the 1960s. Highways ''total:'' 62,240 km ''paved:'' 29,685 km (including 1943 km of expressways) ''unpaved:'' 30,545 km (2012) Oman has two expressway grade highways, with the first 8 lane expressway set to open in 2017. Al Batinah Coastal Road runs along the Batinah Coast of the Sea of Oman. It forks near Shinas, with one leading inland to Wadi Hatta and another to Fujairah. The speed limit is generally 120 km/h. In the Muscat area, this highway is known as Sultan Qaboos Street, and it is the trunk road running through the city. Outside the Muscat area, the interchanges take the form of roundabouts spaced approximately 7 km apart. Each roundabout contains unique features to enliven the streetscape.
