''Rappresentatione di anima et di corpo'' (Portrayal of the Soul and the Body) is a musical work by Emilio de' Cavalieri to a libretto by Agostino Manni (1548-1618). With it, Cavalieri regarded himself as the composer of the first opera or oratorio. Whether he was actually the first is subject to some academic debate, as is whether the work is better categorized as an opera or an oratorio. Emilio De' Cavalieri
Emilio de' Cavalieri (c. 155011 March 1602), or Emilio dei Cavalieri, the spellings "del" and "Cavaliere" are contemporary typographical errors, was an Italian composer, producer, organist, diplomat, choreographer and dancer at the end of the Renaissance era. His work, along with that of other composers active in Rome, Florence and Venice, was critical in defining the beginning of the musical Baroque era. A member of the Roman School of composers, he was an influential early composer of monody, and wrote what is usually considered to be the first oratorio. Life Cavalieri was born in Rome of an aristocratic and musical family. He was the son of Tommaso de' Cavalieri (c. 1509–1587), a close friend of Michelangelo. Alexander Shchetynsky (Shchetinsky) ( uk, Олекса́ндр Степа́нович Щети́нський; russian: Алекса́ндр Степа́нович Щети́нский; Aleksandr Stepanovich Shchetins'kiy) is a Ukrainian composer. Born on 22 June 1960 in Kharkiv, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union. His work list includes compositions in various forms ranging from solo instrumental to orchestral, choral pieces and operas. Teodor Currentzis ( el, Θεόδωρος Κουρεντζής ; born 24 February 1972) is a Greek-Russian conductor, musician and actor. Biography Currentzis was born in Athens, and at age 4 began to take piano lessons. At age 7, he began violin lessons. He entered the National Conservatory, Athens at the age of 12, in the violin department. L'Arpeggiata is a European early music group led by Christina Pluhar, and founded by her in 2000. The American Institute of Musicology (AIM) is a musicological organization that researches, promotes and produces publications on early music. Founded in 1944 by Armen Carapetyan, the AIM's chief objective is the publication of modern editions of medieval, Renaissance and early Baroque compositions and works of music theory. Among the series it produces are the ''Corpus mensurabilis musicae'' (CMM), ''Corpus Scriptorum de Musica'' (CSM) and ''Corpus of Early Keyboard Music'' (CEKM). Oratorio Dei Filippini
The Oratorio dei Filippini (Oratory of Saint Philip Neri) is a building located in Rome and erected between 1637 and 1650 under the supervision of architect Francesco Borromini - in his distinctive style. The oratory is adjacent to the Chiesa Nuova Santa Maria in Vallicella, the mother church of the congregation. In front of the two sides was a small closed square, now integrated in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Euridice (Peri)
''Euridice'' (also ''Erudice'' or ''Eurydice'') is an opera by Jacopo Peri, with additional music by Giulio Caccini. It is the earliest surviving opera, Peri's earlier ''Dafne'' being lost. (Caccini wrote his own " Euridice" even as he supplied music to Peri's opera, published this version before Peri's was performed, in 1600, and got it staged two years later.) The libretto by Ottavio Rinuccini is based on books X and XI of Ovid's ''Metamorphoses'' which recount the story of the legendary musician Orpheus and his wife Euridice.
