''Rage Against the Machine'' (also known as Rage Against the Machine: The Video) is the official self-titled debut video release by American rock band Rage Against the Machine. The video was released in 1997 and includes footage from various performances as well as video clips. Background Towards the end of their Summer 1997 Evil Empire tour, the band decided to put together a video, as they had a huge backlog of live performance recordings. They taped the last two shows of the tour, then added live material from 1994, 1996, and all the music videos up through "People of the Sun." Rage Against The Machine
Rage Against the Machine (often abbreviated as RATM or shortened to simply Rage) is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the group consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. The band are known for their melding of heavy metal and rap music with punk rock and funk influences, and their revolutionary socialist political views. As of 2010, they have sold over 16 million records worldwide. The band was nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility in 2017, then again in 2018, 2019, and 2021, though the bids failed. Bullet in the Head is a song by American rock band Rage Against the Machine, released as the second single from their 1992 eponymous debut album. A fan favorite and one of the album's heaviest tracks, "Bullet in the Head" refers to the band's belief that the government uses media to control the population, drawing comparisons between typical residences and Alcatraz. The track was transferred intact from the band's demo, also titled ''Rage Against the Machine''. Both front and back images for the single's artwork were by the French photographer Marc Riboud. In popular culture "Bullet in the Head" is mentioned in the lyrics to Pennywise's "I Won't Have It", from their 1995 album '' About Time''. "Down Rodeo" is a promotional single by American Rock music, rock band Rage Against the Machine which was initially sent out to various American radio stations. The song was intended as the third single from their ''Evil Empire (album), Evil Empire'' album, although a domestic single was never released. The song addresses social inequality between the rich and poor of America, and the simmering Class conflict, class warfare that existed in the band's home city of Los Angeles following the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. The lyrics of the opening verse, where the song gets its title, leave unclear why the narrator is driving with a shotgun through the upscale shopping district of Rodeo Drive. Although the shotgun motif suggests violence, band lyricist Zach De La Rocha stated in 2011 that the band "never advocated violence". "Freedom" is a song by American rock band Rage Against the Machine, released as the fourth and final single from their self-titled album in 1994. "Freedom" was used in an episode of the MTV series ''Daria'', entitled "Quinn The Brain" in 1998. Music video The video for "Freedom" was directed by Peter Christopherson and produced by Fiz Oliver at Squeak Pictures. It premiered on MTV's '' 120 Minutes'' on December 19, 1993. It was released as the lead single from the album in November 1992. It features heavy drop-D guitar riffs, and lyrics inspired by the police brutality suffered by Rodney King and the subsequent 1992 Los Angeles riots. "Bombtrack" is a song by American rock band Rage Against the Machine. It is the opening track on their self-titled debut album. Like most of Rage Against the Machine's songs, the song's lyrics discuss social inequality, proclaiming that "landlords and power whores" were going to "burn".
