Raffles Girls' School (Secondary)
Raffles Girls' School (RGS) is an independent girls' secondary school located in Braddell, Singapore. Established in 1879, it is one of the oldest schools in Singapore. RGS, together with its affiliated school Raffles Institution, offers a six-year Raffles Programme, which allows students to skip the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level examinations and proceed to take the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level examinations at the end of Year 6. The school was recognised by the Ministry of Education in 2006 by being awarded the School Excellence Award (recognising schools with 'exemplary school processes and practices'), among other awards. Lee Choo Neo
Lee Choo Neo (; 7 September 1895 – 7 September 1947) was the first female medical doctor to practice in Singapore. Her father, Lee Hoon Leong, was a merchant. Her mother was her father's second wife, Mak Hup Sin. Lee Choo Neo was also the aunt of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first Prime Minister; his father was her half-brother Lee Chin Koon. History Lee attended Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and Raffles Girls’ School. In 1911 Lee Choo Neo became the first Straits Chinese girl to earn the Senior Cambridge Certificate, and in 1919 she graduated from King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore. Emily Of Emerald Hill
''Emily of Emerald Hill'' (''Emily'') is a play by Singaporean playwright Stella Kon. The play won the Singapore National Playwriting Competition in 1983. Premise In 1929, fourteen year old Emily arrives at Oberon Mansion, the Gan family home located in the Peranakan enclave of Emerald Hill in Singapore. She is to be married to her cousin. The play follows Emily in the bittersweet reflection of her life, through her roles as a conniving daughter-in-law, society hostess, meddling matriarch and finally a forlorn and lonely grandmother. Cultural significance The play has been credited for giving expression to a distinctly Singaporean identity through its portrayal of Peranakan culture. Stella Kon (''née'' Lim Sing Po, born 1944) is a Singaporean playwright. She is best known for her play, ''Emily of Emerald Hill'', which has been staged internationally. She is a recipient of the S.E.A. Write Award. Biography Kon was born in Edinburgh in 1944. She grew up in a mansion on Emerald Hill. Kon's mother, Kheng Lim (or Rosie Seow), was an actress who inspired her daughter's love of theatre. Kon's father, Lim Kok Ann, got Kon interested in science and literature. Kon was also related to Lim Boon Keng and Tan Tock Seng who were her paternal great-grandfather and maternal great-great-great-great-grandfather respectively. Amy Khor Lean Suan ( zh, s=许连碹, p=Xǔ Liánxuàn; born 1958) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Senior Minister of State for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment since 2020. The Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the north eastern region of Singapore. The constituency encompasses the majority of Ang Mo Kio (Teck Ghee, Cheng San-Seletar, portions of Yio Chu Kang), Seletar Hills, the northern half of Serangoon North, a portion of northern Hougang and a portion of Fernvale.
