''Radiant'' is the third studio album by American rhythm and blues band Atlantic Starr. Overview The album was produced by veteran Motown producer James Anthony Carmichael, best known for his work with The Jackson 5 and Commodores. Atlantic Starr
Atlantic Starr is an American band based in White Plains, New York. They are best known for the hits "Always", "Secret Lovers", "Send for Me", "Circles", "Silver Shadow" and " Masterpiece". History Atlantic Starr began in Greenburgh, New York with trumpeter Duke Jones (who left the band prior to their first recordings), drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist and flautist Joseph Phillips, Sheldon Tucker (guitar; parted ways with the band before the first recordings), and three brothers: David Lewis (vocals/guitar), Wayne Lewis (keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis (percussion and trombone). The band's membership eventually stabilized around Carroll, Archer, Phillips, the three Lewis brothers, lead singer Sharon Bryant (who was later replaced by Barbara Weathers), trumpeter William Sudderth III, and saxophonist Damon Rentie (who was later replaced by Koran Daniels). Ron Kersey
Tyrone Garfield Kersey (April 7, 1949 – January 25, 2005), known as Ron "Have Mercy" Kersey, was an American keyboardist, songwriter, producer and arranger most known for writing the music to "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps. Kersey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from Edison High School where he sang in the glee club and played football. He was a lifelong football fan and loved his Philadelphia Eagles. Kersey served in the United States Air Force from 1967 through 1972. While in the service he often played piano and keyboards at the local boards. There is where he gained the nickname "have mercy". It was the name the patrons would scream at him as he played because they loved his funky rhythms. Upon returning to Philadelphia, he re-acquainted himself with his longtime friend and musician Norman Harris. Norman was instrumental in Kersey becoming a studio musician at Sigma Sound Studios. Bernie Grundman is an American audio engineer. He is most known for his mastering work and his studio, Bernie Grundman Mastering, which he opened in 1984 in Hollywood. David Lewis (born September 8, 1958) is an American singer-songwriter who was the lead singer/guitarist for R&B band Atlantic Starr. He left the band in 1994 to return to his Christian roots. He and his wife Marian, a (former high fashion model with the Ford Modeling Agency), are the co-founders of Into the Light Ministries, a Christ-centered, non-denominational ministry. Sharon Bryant (singer)
Sharon Bryant (born August 14, 1956, Westchester County, New York) is an American R&B singer. She began her career as the lead singer of the R&B group Atlantic Starr in 1976. Career Bryant sang lead on songs such as "When Love Calls" and "Circles". She left the group in pursuit of a solo career in 1984, and had moderate solo success with that effort. She would not achieve success on her own again until five years later, when the ballad " Foolish Heart" reached the top ten on ''Billboard'''s R&B chart. Another major R&B hit from the accompanying self-titled album, "Let Go" was also a moderate pop hit, cracking the top 40 on the pop charts (at #34) and charting at No. 37 on Radio & Records Magazine's Top 100. Jonathan Gus Lind (April 14, 1948 – January 15, 2022), professionally known as Jon Lind, was an American songwriter, performer and A&R Executive Biography Lind was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 14, 1948, and raised in New York City. He studied classical guitar at the Mannes College of Music. His first break was in the 1970s where he worked with Bob Cavallo. At this period he met producer Maurice White who recorded his songs with Ramsey Lewis and Earth, Wind and Fire. He was also a member of the band Howdy Moon and The Fifth Avenue Band. He wrote songs for soulful artists such as Madonna, Cher, The Emotions, Jennifer Holliday, D.J. Rogers, Atlantic Starr and Ramsey Lewis. In 1984, Lind signed with Warner Brothers. He was a Senior Vice President of A&R at Hollywood Records. Lind died from cancer on January 15, 2022, at the age of 73.
