Rabka-Zdrój
Rabka-Zdrój (, in Goral dialects: ''Robka'', colloquially: ''Rabka'') is a spa town in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland. It is located between Kraków and Zakopane in a valley on the northern slopes of the Gorce Mountains, where the rivers Poniczanka and Słonka join the river Raba. It has about 13,000 inhabitants. There is a substantial population of Gorals in the town. Rabka was always known for its salt-works, and from 1864 became a popular spa town. The first treatment centre for children was established a few years later and continues to this day. Hydrotherapy continues to be utilised in local hospital and sanatoriums. The Władysław Orkan Museum established in a former 17th-century larch-wood church, includes a collection of folk sculpture and paintings on glass. __NOTOC__ Gmina Rabka-Zdrój is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Nowy Targ County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the town of Rabka-Zdrój, which lies approximately north of Nowy Targ and south of the regional capital Kraków. Nowy Targ County
Nowy Targ County ( pl, powiat nowotarski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, southern Poland, on the Slovak border. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Nowy Targ, which lies south of the regional capital Kraków. The county also contains the towns of Rabka-Zdrój, lying north of Nowy Targ, and Szczawnica, east of Nowy Targ. The county covers an area of . Gorce Mountains
The Gorce Mountains ( pl, Gorce ) are part of the Western Beskids mountain range spreading across southernmost Poland. They are situated in Małopolska Province, at the western tip of the long Carpathian range extending east beyond the Dunajec River for some . The Gorce are characterized by numerous ridges reaching in all directions for up to with a series of higher elevations cut by deep river valleys. The range is dominated by about a dozen gentle peaks including Turbacz (the highest, at above sea level) in the centre, and – facing east: Jaworzyna Kamienicka (), Kiczora (), Kudłoń (), Przysłop, Czoło and Gorc Kamienicki. Lesser Poland Voivodeship
Lesser Poland Voivodeship or Lesser Poland Province (in pl, województwo małopolskie ), also known as Małopolska, is a voivodeship (province), in southern Poland. It has an area of , and a population of 3,404,863 (2019). Andrzej Leszek Bargiel (; born April 18, 1988 in Rabka, Poland) is a Polish ski mountaineer, backcountry skier, mountain runner and climber. Raised in Łętownia, he is a three-time Polish ski mountaineering champion and held third place in the overall World Cup. He is the current record holder in taking the least amount of time to achieve the Snow Leopard award. He is also the current record holder in the Elbrus Race. Since 2013, he has been running his original ''HIC SUNT LEONES'' (“here are lions” in Latin) project, the goal of which are speedy, oxygenless ascents and ski descents from the highest mountain peaks on Earth. Raba (river)
The Raba is a river in the south of Poland (Lesser Poland Voivodeship), right tributary to the river Vistula. Its source is in the Beskids, between the towns of Rabka-Zdrój and Nowy Targ. It flows to the north and then to the northeast. Towns along the river Raba include Rabka-Zdrój, Mszana Dolna, Myślenice, Dobczyce and Bochnia. For centuries, the Raba was an important artery, along which several towns and villages were established. Sipo-SD Academy
The Sipo-SD Academy was an SS training school established by former Einstatzgruppen '' SS-Brigadeführer'' Bruno Streckenbach designed to train students in various torture and execution methods as well as to provide continuing education to the senior command structure. The school was originally located in Zakopane but was later relocated to Rabka in July 1940 and then later to Berlin in 1945. It is estimated that over 2000 Jews from 30 neighboring villages were imprisoned, executed, and buried on the school grounds in Rabka. Wilhelm Rosenbaum
Wilhelm Karl Johannes Rosenbaum (27 April 1915 – 4 April 1984) was a German SS officer who was involved in numerous murders and other war crimes committed during World War II at the Sipo-SD Academy where he maintained a leadership role through a majority of its earlier years. Family Wilhelm Rosenbaum was born on 27, April, 1915 in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. His father, Peter Rosenbaum, was a municipal worker at the markets of Alexanderplatz. His biological mother died when he was just one year old. His father re-married, which resulted in a stepbrother named Wilhelm Franz. The second marriage was dissolved after about three years.
