Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell
Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell (1866–1948) was an American zoology, zoologist, born at Norwood, England, and brother of Sydney Cockerell. He was educated at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, and then studied botany in the field in Colorado in 1887–90. Subsequently, he became a taxonomist and published numerous papers on the Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Mollusca and plants, as well as publications on paleontology and evolution. Personal life Cockerell was born in Norwood, Greater London and died in San Diego, California. He married Annie Sarah Fenn in 1891 (she died in 1893) and Wilmatte Porter Cockerell, Wilmatte Porter in 1900. ''Rabdophaga exsiccans'' is a gall midge. It was first described by Ewald Heinrich Rübsaamen in 1916. The larvae tunnel in the shoots of creeping willow (''Salix repens ''Salix repens'', the creeping willow, is a small, shrubby species of willow in the family Salicaceae, growing up to 1.5metres in height. Jean-Jacques Kieffer
Jean-Jacques Kieffer (1857 in Guinkirchen – 1925 in Bitche) was a French naturalist and entomologist who specialised in the study of parasitic insects. Educated as a priest, Kieffer taught natural science in Bitche, Lorraine while working on the description and classification of insects. His work and publications later became a predominant source of description and classification for entomologists in the early 20th century, in particular with regard to parasitoid wasps, midges, and mosquitos. He collaborated with the English entomologist Peter Cameron. Kieffer received an honorary Doctor honoris causa degree from the University of Strasbourg in 1904. Description The gall is a pear-shaped swelling about long on a young shoot. The swelling is broader than that of the gall of '' R. karschi'' and contains individual larva in separate chambers that run together. Pupation takes place in the gall and the pupa does not have a tooth near the base of the antenna.
