RLV College Of Music And Fine Arts
Radha Lakshmi Vilasam "RLV" College of Music and Fine Arts is an academic institution situated in Thripunithura, Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. It is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University and offers graduate and postgraduate courses in music, performing arts and visual arts. The current principal is Prof. C.J Suseela History The college began in a single apartment belonging to the Cochin Royal family. The then King of Cochin, Kerala Varma Midukkan Thampuran and his wife Smt. Lakshmikutty Nethyaramma invited experts in stitching, kaikottikkali, and painting to impart learning to girls and elder ladies. This endeavor developed into an institution in the name of the King’s daughter Radha and wife Lakshmi and was named ‘Radha Lakshmi Vilasam Academy’ incorporating vocal music also. Chenda
The Chenda ( ml, ചെണ്ട, ) is a cylindrical percussion instrument originating in the state of Kerala and widely used in Tulu Nadu of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in India. In Tulu Nadu (Coastal Karnataka), it is known as ''chende''. It is greatly identified as a cultural element in Kerala and Tulu Nadu. This instrument is famous for its loud and rigid sound. A Chenda has two sides, the left side called "Edamthala" (ഇടം തല)(Left Head) and the right side "Valamthala" (വലം തല)(Right Head). The "Edamthala" is made of only one/two layer of cow skin and the "Valamthala" will have a five/seven layer skin, so as to have a bass sound. The skin are dried in the shade and fastened on wooden rings (Chenda Vattam, ചെണ്ട വട്ടം) made of the trunk of a locally available palm tree (Eeranpana) or bamboo, using a gum prepared from the seed of a tree called "pananchi maram". Minmini (born P. J. Rosily) is a South Indian film playback singer. She is best remembered for the song "Chinna Chinna Aasai" from ''Roja'', the debut work of film composer A. R. Rahman, which was dubbed in Hindi as "Choti Si Asha". Most of her songs are in Tamil, most of them composed by Ilaiyaraaja and A. R. Rahman. Her Malayalam songs include "Souparnikamritha" from ''Kizhakkunarum Pakshi'', "Oonjal Urangi", and "Neelaraavi" from ''Kudumbasametham''. Sabareesh Prabhaker (born 5 August 1989) is an Indian violinist. He comes from the musical family of the ''Cherthala sisters'' (Malayalam drama artists), his grandmother Janaki being one of the six. Gowry Lekshmi (born 2 August 1993) is an Indian composer, singer, songwriter, and music producer from Cherthala, Kerala. Early life She is from Cherthala, a village in Alappuzha of Kerala. She studied in St. Mary of Leuca Senior Secondary School. She did BA Music course in RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Thrippunithura and further mastering the same with MA from Kerala University. Career Gowry Lekshmi began her film career at the age of 13 by composing a song for the Malayalam film ''Casanovva''. Director Rosshan Andrrews, who liked her song "Sakhiye", used it in his Mohanlal-starrer Casanova that came out in 2012. She was only 13 when she composed the song.
